I have a fairly fresh install of Fluxbox on my Gentoo desktop system. I am trying to configure the default colors used for xterms, gvim windows, and other textual applications. By default, if I...

I'm looking for information on how to use high-order characters in Linux console and terminal passwords. I know you can use them in Windows via the ALT-numberpad method. Is there a similar way to...

..but not on linuxquestions; didn't remember its existance actually. Just did a Google search on the Gentoo site and a general search, which gave me plenty of sites for obtaining a live CD, but none...

I know there are a plethora of live CDs out there, from various distributions. I'd like to create my own anyway, so I can have my own set of tools and utilities? Ideally I'd have a Gentoo or...

Would a bad CMOS battery cause problems on a reboot where power is still continuously applied?
I'm not using DHCP nor do I have a DHCP server on my network. 3 boxes don't seem to warrant a DHCP...

Recently, my laptop running Gentoo has started having issues keeping accurate system time. I'm not sure why.
I've set the hardware clock using hwclock, then the timezone using zoneinfo and it...

I'm using Gentoo, just installed it about 3 weeks ago. I compiled SMP into the kernel, figuring that's what I needed for hyperthreading support (I have a P4 2.8Ghz CPU)
While going through dmesg,...

I'd forgotten entirely about upgradepkg.
As for swaret, there were some packages that would be listed as packagename.x.y.z --> packagename.x.y.z-bob and various endings after that. I wasn't sure...

I've successfully done installs of Slackware (9.1 and 10.0), and got rid of the services I don't need running (no FTP server, etc) but I've never really figured out how one patches Slackware without...

It works now, thanks for your help
Now I just have to learn to set margins via commandline.. woo hoo!

I've been trying to set up CUPS using the web admin tool. It allows me to set up my EPSON Stylus Photo 820 on Parallel Port #1 and select the proper driver. The status even says idle; waiting for...

Just needed to update the win98 machine..
Here's what I did in case anyone is curious:
Checked the Samba share using a Win2000 box and found that it could write long filenames just fine. This...

I've successfully set up my Slack 10 box to run Samba, and configured the shares as well.. except for one thing.
When I try to connect to it from my Win98 system and transfer files to it, it tells...

I've been trying to connect to swaret.org and get the latest swaret release then upgrade my 9.1 box.. but the last couple days I can't seem to get to swaret, nor several of my friends. Anyone know...
