'ifconfig -a'
the -a flag shows all interfaces, even the ones that are down.

I can't bring it up myself because ifconfig doesn't see it, i.e. ifconfig -a only lists a lo device.

I'm pretty sure that it needs the pcnet_cs driver, but even when I load it, no eth devices show up.

I have been using gentoo for about a year now, I really do love it. It is not a noob distro though, all of the install is through the command line, all of the config is through the command line....

You can download a cvs version of winex for free; a good option for a starving college student.

This is my ntfs line in the fstab:

I don't use red hat, so i couldn't tell you what the size of the iso should be. But I would check the MD5 checksum of the iso with the checksum listed for it.
-
You can mount ntfs partitions to read only with the ro option (read only). Thus in your case there would be no problem for you to watch videos that were stored on the windows partition.

I did copy the System.map and still no good. What does "unresolved symbol" mean?

I just recompiled my kernel and now i can't load any modules. I have done recompiles in the past and have not had this problem. Every single module gives me a similar error:

Did you put the module into the /etc/modules.autoload?
I had some issues with my ethernet when i installed gentoo, and a kernel recompile was able to fix it (once i knew what was wrong). If this...

I think for redhat 8 the command is actually:
rpmbuild --rebuild file.src.rpm
Then install the new rpm
rpm -ivh file.rpm
-
This is the way that i started off, and its really easy to do. Put the new hd in as the slave, run the redhat install and it should be all good.

I haven't tried using voice in HL from linux, but as I recall there was another program that did the setup for voice. Running this program might solve your problems.

You might want to consider a wireless network (802.11b). I have been using 802.11b over a year and love it. You need a wireless router and a wireless card for the computer. The install should be very...
