alright. I think that the new drive entry in my wine config may have worked; I really can't know for sure. I burnt the iso I created of the game disc and put it in my cdrom drive. It fails even...

alright. I was going to try that anyway but wasn't sure if anyone knew exactly how WineX autodetects CD-ROMs (for example searching /etc/fstab for 'cdrom' and that would mean 'loop0' wouldn't...
-
I don't want to do that because I have a number of drives (e.g. my UMS's) that I mount as users and it needs to check the fstab to do so.
-
I've tried creating another drive entry like mdwatts said but the games still look to my actual CD-ROM.(making me think wine checks my fstab for cdroms) is there a command line option I could use to...

I'm using WineX 3.2 to play games like Diablo II LOD and Warcraft III.
Both of these games require a CD in the drive while you play.
I have created images of the CD's ( dd if=/dev/cdrom0...

:D I figured it out! I had to change some BIOS settings for the drive.
the default was 'auto' and it had been working for a while. 'CHS','LBA', and 'Large' were the other options. I needed to change...

The way I would do it you would have at least 3 partitions total.
GRUB on one partition.
Windows on another.
Linux on a third.
(and probably a swap partition for linux as well..)
Its not that...

sorry watts. :o
I meant it jokingly.
I understand where you are coming from and think you do an excellent job at keeping things under control.
(BTW 66 [or now 71] posts doesnt mean I haven't...

IBM's site Launch the flash version. As long as you have flash working you shouldn't have problems veiwing all the ads through it.

GRUB is a bootloader. It is (or can be) the first software your computer loads on a boot. When set up correctly It will display a menu when you first boot asking which OS you would like to use. ...
-
I went ahead and tried fixmbr, and fixboot. My partition table is still there (thank god) but NTLOADR still can't be found (even though I can see it there C:\ntloadr ) I think I have left the realm...

I usually just use whatever is the default for the distro. but when I have to choose I install glinks. (Its a text browser with graphics support for X. kind of a hybrid)

I'm curious as to exactly how IBM is directly benifiting by advertising for Linux. You'll notice that in the recent commercials they haven't even been showing any of their own products. So they go...

heh. mdwatts.. never fails to find something to criticize, even with the most detailed posts.

I <3 IBM. Linux ads in the superbowl. how cool is that?
-
there is a 'fixmbr' command on the win2k rescue disc, but it warns me that the current MBR is not recognized and re-writing it may damage the partition table. Is there a way I could write down the...

Ok. Now I'm really confused as to how my computer was able to boot anything before because GRUB is installed on /dev/hda6 (far beyond 1024 cylinders) but NTLOADR is installed on the bootsector of the...
-
On the advice of a friend I decided to run 'grub-install /dev/hda' (with qualms of overwriting my NT bootloader) and it happened. I can now boot linux just fine, but when I go to boot windows I get a...

Alright. My theory of corrupt GRUB images has been proven wrong. I booted into rescue mode, chroot-ed to /mnt/sysimage (my actual / ) ran 'grub-install /dev/hda8', checked that the files had been...

just want to make sure before I do anything here...
grub-install won't re-write the MBR?
because I can't do that or I won't be able to load Windows.
GRUB (/boot) is on I think the third or fourth...

I have a dualboot system with Windows 2000 and RedHat 9. It's been working fine for quite a while now. Yesterday, while using gallery (a php image gallery), I accidentally started a backup of all my...
