There is no linux binary on the site. That's just for the internet server used to host a Counter-strike online game, not the game itself. Also, you need to buy Half-Life first (better deal than the retail version because you get more games) then download Counter-Strike for free.

To get Counter-strike to work, you need the latest OpenGL build of WINE (WineX is not necessary and in my opinion, is worse than WINE). The Windows versions of both Half-Life and Counter-Strike are required as well.

If you need help please email me at TheChuckster@dm7.net along with online contact info (AIM, MSN, etc.).

okies.... nobody in this thread knows what they are talking yet.

there is no linux client for counter-strike. there never will be a linux client for it either. there is a linux server (as well as a windows one). If you want to host a game from your linux machine, you can, for free (minus bandwith and those costs). But to play the game, you need windows (or winex working, which costs money as well), and you need to buy the game which is quite cheap now. (but its windows only.)

:edit: dang, beaten to the punch.

afaik you can purchase counter-strike as a standalone, it came out when the mod hit 1.0 I believe

You can buy Counter-strike boxed for $30, or you can buy the original Half-life with a bunch of mods, variations, and whatnot (including Counter-Strike) for $30, strangely enough...

"shizzle"? "g"? What on earth is this language? Because it's not English...

Anyway, there is a HOWTO for getting the Counter-Strike client (actually the Half-Life client, but same difference if you already own a Windows version of HL) working under the OpenGL build of Wine, at http://lhl.linuxgames.com
