My RAM usage is usually around 350-450 MB of pysical RAM without swap being used. That's while running a KDE desktop, surfing the net, listening to internet radio, and 2-3 other things.
I noticed you didn't list a video card, integrated graphics will use up some of the CPU cycles and the RAM.
I have a Barton on a Soltek mb that has built in overclocking.

    vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
    cpu family : 6
    model : 10
    model name : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+
    stepping : 0
    cpu MHz : 1930.128
    cache size : 512 KB
As you can see, using VERY safe, automatic overclocking, the speed is 100 MHz higher than stock.
I could push it, but I don't really need it.

Since AMD rates their processors(instead of intel, who simply slaps the clock speed on the box), it's safe to assume that the 2600+ will be faster than the 2500+.

    ..But not really.

The 2500+ is the newer Barton core that I'm looking at, and then the 2600+ is the T-bred one. I'm trying to find the links, but I've been seeing benchmarks that say the 2500+ Barton is faster than the 2600+ T-Bred.

But, in case hard candy (or bon bon ) got curious, I'm running a 16MB Matrox Millenium G450 Dual Head. I'm not a big gamer, but I crave desktop real estate. This G450's been doing great for me...

Well... I've decided. I'm going to go for the Barton! Je_fro has one, so I figured if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me!
