Unanswered posts forum.
I am a new user on Gentoo, but don't consider myself a complete newbie with Linux. I am definitely in the early stages of my linux life, but am learning. I like the option they have on their site to view all unanswered posts! I have been going in and surfing around when I have time, and I like doing so! I have learned a bit by doing so, and also start throwing my own hard earned knowledge around.
Just thought you might want to consider it here. These forums and gentoo forums are all I use, and I like both very much!
Nice job, and I have to say there are a great group of people on both of these sites!
Thanks for listening!!

To make it an option in the search could you just add an option in the existing search about how many replies are allowed?
-
I think so! It would accomplish the same thing.

That's quite a machine you have there, 1.5GB of RAM, just the thought gets me...yea.
-
if it is that important to the user they can just *bump* it
-
Thanks!

That means they can reply to their own post with something like "bump" to get it back on the main page. It's generally a good idea to wait a little while before doing this though. People tend to get annoyed if you bump your post a couple times an hour
-
exactly what i meant. but no people should not bump their posts very often, that gets annoying. but i have found that sometime my posts will get overlooked for one reason or another for a couple days as move down the list, and when i bump it i usually get a reply within a few hours. i think that i only have one post that never got answered and i don't care cause that was way back in the day and a couple days after i posted it i moved to a new system
-
Well, that is good for each user personally, to make sure they are not forgotten. I am not so concerned with that, but the real reason I think it is useful, is because it gives people an easy way to get involved, hence helping out the moderators, and also helping the general community get more involved, and make the community wiser.
I never thought of bumping though, I don't think I have ever had the need.
If I run into that, I will if I need, but this a a good group of people willing to help out, and I don't forsee needing that.
Plus, it would make it easier for the moderators to find stuff that has not been touched.
Anyway, just my thoughts. I think it would be slick!

We do try, routinely, to find posts that have been unanswered. I would not say we have a 100% success rate with that, but the effort is made.
I looked at the search options, and I did not see any way to activate such a feature.
