getting into open souce development...how?
So if I wanted to get into some sort of open source development, what steps should I take to accomplish this? I'd like to help develop something for Linux, though I don't really have any particular distro that I would have to work on. Or development for a program like OpenSSL, Mozilla, or gaim or anything. Anyone know of any opportunities that are currently available? Perhaps it might be better for me to wait until after I've finished my OS class this semester, but whatever...I'm looking into it now anyway. Thanks guys.

You can look on sourceforge.net particularly at the help wanted section http://sourceforge.net/people/ .

try sourceforge.net (spel.?), pick the kind of project you like; download the sources, and get started.
Good luck.

a very easy way to get to sourceforge is sf.net

Cool thanks guys...although I was just introduced a few minutes ago to a project that I'll be taking on here at work. I need to write a program that can automate a build verification test, and I can tell right now that it isn't going to be easy like the rest of the programming I've done so far. So maybe I should hold off on the opensource development right now.
