mdwatts Memorial...
Well, I thought I'd continue on with my idea, posting it here in the ideas section.
Taking into account the recent tragic news and coupling it with the fact that Mike Watts contributed ENORMOUSLY to these forums, I think it would only be fitting that we get together and construct something in his memory.
I'll volunteer first, for whatever it may be, and although my "programming" and/or web skills are nearly zilch, I could definitely spend time searching through posts for whatever kind of information we deem necessary to start this up.
Any takers?

I think it is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. I have no ideas. Maybe something as simple as leaving his name on as a moderator in the forums's list.
But in a different light, perhaps we should be dedicated here to the unfinished work of helping others that mdwatts enjoyed doing. that might be a better way to carry on his legacy.

This may be a dumb idea, but I got the idea reading some of the posts in the "MDWatts" thread.
At the top of each forum, have a button titled "MDwatts Search Link' , and have that button link to

HC, I think you may be a genius.
I had also thought about suggesting that we leave him as a mod, but Trav beat me to it. You never know, he may decide to drop by and tell someone to use G4L.

Hey- I might have to give up my crusade for that one!!
Great idea, perhaps even more fitting than anything else!
So- how do we do it??

I would imagine that it would have to go through Brian Proffitt and JupitaWeb before anything like that was implimented on the site.

Even better -- summon his soul into a computer with net connection. He will come back and mod here for nothing.
Or maybe for joss-sticks. We don't have to lament over his death so

I like it, too.
I am wondering if we should collect a bunch of ideas and then have a commuity poll. I want to give a lot of people a chance to respond.

I am all for a search button. While he never helped me directly, he has provided me with tons of help indirectly. While I am searching posts for my answers, I almost always come across something that he has replied to. I also agree with keeping the spirit of his generosity alive by trying to help whenever we can. I do not know a lot about Linux, but when I know the answer I always try to help. It is a small price to pay to have so many experts willing to give me a hand when I am stuck.
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed - Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

I recall his signature once had a link to G4L calling it "My secret search engine" so perhaps MDwatts' Secret Search engine? now this may be a real dumb idea, but i figured i'd throw it out
