Profile additions...
I think it would make things alot easier around here if everyone didnt have to post stuff like kernel distro and wm everytime they have a question. Perhaps there could be another couple blanks in everyone's profile (in User CP-->Edit Profile):
Kernel:
Distro:
Window Manager:
Maybe favorite terminal, bootloader? I think the three ones above are most important. What do you all think? Comments welcome....
Thanks,

yeah but then everyone who was going to answer that person would have to view the profile, and some people wouldn't put it in there, and then there would be a new strain of topics asking "how do I find out what kernel I'm running?"
I think it would be just as easy for the poster to tell us in his initial question; i.e "I'm running thisDistro and I'm having trouble blah blah blah...." as opposed to "i just got linux installed today now i cant surf my favorite porns pls help poor newd i mean newb"

You could put it right next to when they registered, location, avatar.

Yeah thats what I meant, under the avatar, like location is: I thought that was the profile (if its not that what do you call that little list???).
I think itd just be nice if i didnt have to tell you what distro im running, and plus if certain individuals dont wanna do it, then they can leave it blank....
Anyone else with opinions...?
Thanks for reading/commenting,

it's prolly not a bad idea. a lot of people have some specs in their sig just so they don't have to say every time "running kernel 2.x.y on distro Z" ... at least that is why I have mine in my sig.

The thing is that when you have clicked on "Reply", all the info located in signatures and profiles are not shown. You just have to remember all that stuff when replying.

I can add fields in the User Profile that would cover this. I would just add "Distro" to start with, as kernel and window manager information might be too tricky for newbies to attain. Distro should be enough, seeing as how most beginners and mid-range users tend to keep the same kernel and WM the distro orginally came with.
If this sounds good, I'll activate the new field and post some instructions.

sounds like a good thing. do the forum stickys or guidelines for searching have a how-to to find out what kernel version they are using or other system version (like how to get the gcc version for instance)?
