[SOLVED] wierd entry in /var/log/messages file

    Hi Everyone,

I was looking through my log files today when I noticed that my messages log is filled with the following message which is repeated every 20 mins.

    Oct 28 23:16:22 StarKnight -- MARK --
    Oct 28 23:36:22 StarKnight -- MARK --
    Oct 28 23:56:22 StarKnight -- MARK --
StarKnight is the machine's hostname. This is a hdd install of Knopix which was upgraded to the latest testing debian using apt-get. I am using kernel ver 2.6.5 #1 SMP.

The machine is fully patched as of yesterday. I tried searching for the error on the web but didnt find anything useful.

Any idea what these messages mean?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is default syslog behavior. If you want ot stop it then adding "-m 0" to the invokation line
of syslogd will stop syslog markings. "-m n" will place a mark every n
    minutes.

No, actually, the first reply was correct. Just a way of letting you know log daemons are still running....

heh heh, you're not the only one who has raised an eyebrow at this one; first time I saw that I wondered if I had been "h4x0r3d" as well.
If your desktop icons start dancing around on you then you should worry
