All of you are nothing compared to me.

While I'll readily admit when I first started typing I had to use the peck and punt technique, I am now a level 25 typist and can type ~600 gigawords per nanosecond.

Also, I've used the imac keyboards. They're not my favorite (a little to squishy for my tastes). I prefer those old school IBM keyboards (the ones that have springs under all the keys, and they make noise whenever you push any of the keys).

If you use KDE, it's under the 'Edutainment - Miscellaneous' menu, listed as ktouch.

elderdays, figures you'd use all 14 fingers. only someone like you would be gutsy enough to do that

as for my typing, its all over the board. my index fingers do much of it, but a and s have always stayed stuck to my pinkey and ring finger. otherwise i randomly hit the keys with any finger that is near it.

I still have to look, but I very seldom use the home row keys, because I don't need them, I just type.

What is it with so many people not using their left thumb?

Hey coming to thing of it I really don't use my right thumb. There used to be a Compaq keyboard in a tech shop that I worked in that I always got stuck with that had a split space bar. The left button was actually a backspace and the right was the space. Really f'd me up. Talk about run-on unreadable sentences.

Oh and I can type one handed and often do when I am on the phone.

I can properly type when sitting in front of a US keyboard as learned how to type in the USA.

Swiss-German keyboards are quite different, though, as the Z and the Y key have traded places and the Enter key is waaaayyy smaller to make room for the Umlauts (ü, ö, ä).

When I came back to Urop I tried to keep typing properly but after I had hit the ä key instead of Enter for the fith time and screamed really loud I'm back at hunt 'n peck.

I have thought several times about buying a US keyboard but since most documents I write are in German it would be a pain in the *** to add all the Umlauts as special characters. Life's cruel.

Oh, I just found the layout of a Swiss-Keyboard. This one's Swiss-French, however. Just exchange the é, è, and Ã* with the German Umlauts and you get an idea of what I'm typing with.

    kool

kool, so it seems like the natural keyboards help people out a lot. I was actually gonna ask about these cause Im thinking of getting one and didnt know if they actually made much of a difference.

After reading these posts, it seems like it might be time to test my typing speed....I wonder how I compare to everyone else.

Oh and the way I learned to touch type is by using IM, more specifically ICQ......spend enough time on it and youll learn the keyboard pretty well. Although this is probably one of the contributors to sore fingers/wrists/hands(CTS)

    Yeah, when it's necessary.

I usually smash my face against the keyboard and use both thumbs to delete the characters I don't want.
Not very efficient, but it works.
