magical permission changes (sound folder)
Mandrake 8.2
Problem:
somehow the ownership and permissions are being changed on my /dev/sound directory, including all of the files. The system has three users and it ONLY happens when my wife logs in (not EVERY time). The fix is an annoyance... I just log in (or su) as root and change it all back.
Two questions:
What might be causing this anomally?
How can I track it down?
Is there a way to automate the repair proceedure?
OK, ok, I know that's three questions.... here's another nickle.

Funny, I just ran into the exact same thing in Mandrake 10.0. Check your console.perms file (in /etc IIRC) and I'll bet the sound one has gotten changed to like 600 or something. In my case I also found that my CD drive and various other things were screwy too, so you might want to take a look at the other entries in that file if it turns out to be the culprit.
Incidentally, I have no idea how that happened, but assume it was during a urpmi update that I did.
