    Storage Server

    Hi guys,

I am new into linux as well this forum =), just a few quick noobie question.
I have a server which host a few raid(raid 1+0) drives which is currently operation on win xp, plannning to migrate it to linux. I am not sure which distro and filesystem should I use for the server. The server mainly holds documents, videos, etc etc. Just a side note, the rest of the pc around it are run on win xp and will be accesing the server from time to time. Please advice and thanks in advance.

I have just such a server at my office. It mainly serves as a file server for documents, video and audio files, as well as being an internal webserver.

    I use:
    Slackware as my distro.
Samba for sharing files with the Windows network, and
mdadm (linux software RAID) to make a 3-disk RAID 5.

Hope this helps get you started!
