Holy Crap! According to http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=36480 I have cranked out an average of 706 points in the last 24 hours! I don't get it. I haven't changed a setting or added a proc yet I've doubled my points somehow!

    Oh well. No complaints here

lol I'm still 40 and I havn't folded in such a long time, maybe 4 months and even then I only gained a few hundred points. If only you could render video while folding without the rendering being degraded...oh well

If you have the nice set correctly it should not affect anything else you do. I have mine set to 19 and it lets me do whatever without slowing me down.

yeah, I've noticed that when I'm using both cpu's at 100% for my own modelling purposes, it will segfault once in awhile (maybe once every week or 2) while folding is running.

If you are not overclocking, then you may have something a miss somewhere. I run folding all the time and have never had it affect anything else. Something fishy somewhere.

Hmm.. I just installed Suse 10.1 and of course, one of my first jobs is to set ip a folding service.

    And it doesn't work anymore?
Strange. Anyone got any similar problems?

I used the instructions here http://www.hardfolding.com/index.php?go=3&id=9&show=1 and have double checked that all the symlinks are correct.

    But trying

    /etc/init.d/rc3.d/K98Folder stop

doesn't actually stop the job anymore.
And when I do a reboot, nothing starts up.
The only thing I have found is that if I'm logged in as root and type

    $ su -m folder

    Then I get an error

    bash: /root/.bashrc: Permission denied

Could this be causing it? It doesn't even matter what directory I'm in when I issue the su -m command, even in /home/folder

    Annoying.
Any help much appreciated.. I was creeping up the chart there too!!

I don't know why it isn't working for you, but I usually just start it using screen and that way it keeps running until my next reboot. For the /root/.bashrc error, check the /home/folder/.bashrc and .bash_profile and make sure that they aren't calling /root/.bashrc for some reason. You may also want to add a -l (lower-case L) to your su command. That will make sure that the environment gets set up properly for the user. Of course you may have fixed all of this by now since it's been two weeks.

And I finally got all of my boxes back up and folding, so I should move back up the list again here soon.

    how it works for me...

In my 'etc/rc.d/rc.local' file I have inserted this line:

    cd /home/lowell/folding@home; ./FAH504-Linux.exe &

works for me. (I am assuming-any comments here would be appreciated) that whenever I boot out, the process is correctly shut down, and then starts up anew when I reboot. What I do know is that if the computer ever shuts off suddenly (insert 'thunder storm' here), upon reboot the FAH text indicates that it had suffered an improper shutdown.

Just sorta thrown this out as my 2c worth. Hope I've read your issues correctly.

I just moved into the 20's for justlinux_regulars:

    http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...&teamnum=36480

I can see je_fro and ions up there on the horizon.

According to extremeoverclocking, http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...hp?s=&u=135110 , I'm projected to hit 100,000 by October. Of course, this image changes over time. This is as of 17 Jul 06.
