Is there a sticky or something besides the Folding@home page that takes baby steps with installing the FAH504 client? I tried their page methods and finstall, with no luck. I did click on permissions and checked to appropriate box, but it keep saying I don't have a directory. I'm lost

    I am using Suse 10.2, on a 2.4B Northwood P4, 533 FSB, Intel 845 GBV Mobo, ATI 9000 Pro 128, Video card, 2 X 256 PC2100.

If you could point out where to read, I would appreciate it.

tell us which client you downloaded and where you put the file, i.e. "graphical" or "command line".

I downloaded the "Linux Console" (X86 and BSD) ? 5.04

I believe that is the 32 bit version for Linux and the only one I saw. I put it in a 'Folding' folder on my Gnome desktop

That is very similar to windows, installing and opening is a different matter.

All I really intend to do is fold, but I really think I like this Suse distro, so I would like to keep it.

    Ok, simple as pie:

Open "Terminal" from the "Applications > "Accessories" menu. At the command prompt do:
"cd Desktop/Folding" this will put you in the "Folding" directory you created on your desktop.
Then do: "ls" to make sure that "FAH5-Linux.exe" is in there. Then do: "chmod +x FAH5-Linux.exe" to set the executable bit on that file. This makes sure that the system know that this file is executable, that is can be run. Then do: "./FAH5-Linux.exe". This runs the program.

You will be prompted for your FAH username and team number. The team number is 36480 for the justlinux_regulars team. You can go with the defaults for the other questions.

    Thats is.

    And count me in...
I guess the taiwan internet breakage did do a part in its formation...

Actually, the speed is less than satisfying: I can't fully maximise the amd64 x2 cpu with the smp client! I've had much trouble getting any real core to work, and I'm really stuck with core_82.... sigh...

And off I go, refolding the same protein.

I just run two instances of the non-SMP version. They're in separate directories so they don't step on each other's files. If the SMP version (which didn't exist when I got my dual core, IIRC) isn't working it's something to try.

Thanks. But then, I think you definately win the "who sees a better sunset everyday" contest. Im stuck here in the foothills of the Ramapo mountains in northern NJ. And dont be fooled by the term mountain. The entire range can be summited in one day by a boy and his dog.

    Cheers and HNY

I was running folding on suse 10.1, i have at least 5 partitions for linux and one wxp on this computer (amd 64 3200 1GB ram) i was trying to run the same folding core from all Linux's as i allways boot into a different one, and that did work for a month, i confess i do not know mutch about permissions and i did something bad, blasting permissions on /etc on that partition and after that i coud not su or do anything "root#"
On suse 10.1, (I did fix that not reinstall.
I have a partition called /tv just for recording tv stuff so if i move the folding folder there mount it from all linuxes and get help from you, can i run the same core from any, Linux install
