I just folded my first protein

Hey,

I can't believe it, my linux server, a 233 HP kayak just folded its first protein. It took almost a week, but it did it. No more wasted clock cycles here

Yeah, I have a cluster of 4 P-133's folding...they finish a unit in about 3 days.
Since I don't need any more servers, folding is the best use I could think of for them...
I didn't see you on our teampage...you are folding for the right team aren't you?

I noticed that too, perhaps it will take 30 or 40 min before the server updates the lists and makes me apart of it

Did you know that's the holy grail for medicine/biochemistry?
We currently don't have a ruleset that accurately predicts structure from sequence data. When that day comes, the repercussions will be huge. Thanks for folding!!

Right now the last thing on the screen says "Loaded queue successfully". Should I be seeing anything else with the default verbose level?

Also, how do you guys run yours? Do you leave a console window open or push it to the background? It would be nice to set this to load after a reboot if possible.

Just an update on our status:

We are currently ranked 146th out of 42383 teams.
We have over 3430016 points.
202 Active CPUs, not bad considering we only have around 40 active members! The sad part of this is we have had 103 people join and only 40 have remained active!
Currently we have 2 members churning out over 1000 points a day - dkeav and andermic. :O
We average roughly 229 Points Per Day.

It runs in the background, started by an init script....be patient, if your cpu is maxed, it's going. I'm suprised how 'nice' it is, too. I can play Doom3 and not even feel it.
(PS - I'm a biochemistry grad student)

I just jumped in for the heck of it. Does it screw things up if I run it on 2 computers at once, or no? I'm doing that now, but I just wanted to make sure nothing will get borked.

You'll run them as separate clients with different Machine ID's.
They will both have the same username and team#, but their machine ID's will be 1 and 2. It takes up all unused cpu cycles, but releases them easily, so your performance doesn't suffer.
