@ Cerf: congrats.
@ pz Mike zq:
Don't worry about overheating your laptop. I have F@H running on my old Dell Inspiron 3800 laptop that has a broken case fan since it fell from a truck in the military. It got extremely hot when I used to play 3D shooters (i.e. Counterstrike) with it, but F@H is no problem. I don't cllose the lid, though, so the warmth omited by the keypad isn't being hold back by the screen.

Short answer: no. I would asume that a wu is the smallest piece of work that cannot be further divided. Sortof like a subatomic particle like a hadron.

Okay, whats this cluster stuff about then?
I'm not completely ignorant, I believe I know what a cluster is, and have read about them in relation to *nix OS's. But, how do they work with this project?

same as what they do for anything... spread processor needs of the app(s) across multiple processors.

in short...
each node gets its own wu.

Does it make a difference whether you run the graphical or text based versions?
Would this work on a modded xbox running linux?

There is no graphical Linux version. For other platforms the only difference between text and graphical is the small amount of cpu cycles that are taken from actual folding to support the graphics.
It will work on whatever Linux is running. Well probably not imbedded devices. Xbox is just a PC with a Celeron, no reason F@H wouldn't run on it.

I'd see no reason that it wouldn't run on a moded xbox with Linux, an xbox is a proprietary computer.

Not nicisarily, (your taling abour windoze right?), It takes up unused cpu cycles, so when the gui is doing nothing, then it would be the same as from a cli.
ions beat me to it
And on the clustering stuff, its just the same to throw a bunch of machines together (indivudaly) and run F@H on each one? Or is it more efficiant to have a cluster setup?

To je_fro & mods:
With a mods approval ( I need the approval):
I have cropped the justlinux graphic to just the pic of tux so that we may have an image on the stanford folding site, instead of a broken link image. I won't attach now, but when a mod sees this, please either respong here or pm me and i will edit this post and upload the file.

It would either be the same or more efficient to just use them as individual computers, I can't see any benefit to set up a real cluster for this.

Hey, the logo on the justlinux_regulars team site is a good touch. I had noticed previously that there was a broken image graphic there.
And, not that I'm counting, but I started in 57th place, then 55, 49, 50, now 46.

Folding is Fun
I thought I made a mistake once, but, of course, I was mistaken.
