Please try again with only gzip or zip, but not both. It might also be useful to include your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file.

    Hi spx2,

    First, describe the problem.
Then we could specify some needed materials.

Your order of things is wrong.

what is your system configurations? Why do I see Nvidia and Savage together?

finally, what is your apparent problem? nothings saying anything wrong here!.

And no, we meant that you either gzip them with the tar program, or you zip them. don't do both at once --- its redundant and makes us work for nothing. gzipping with tar makes a file that includes all of them, just like in zip, but gzip is a better compressor. zip is the same. by gzipping them one by one is a hassle.

In fact, tar and bzip2 is the best compression around, I've heard. gzip is also good. rar is non-open I think, and so is plain zip.

You've presented only part of a larger problem, then asked us to go off and look for the other pieces to see the bigger picture. Given this is a volunteer forum, not many people are going to take the time to help you if they have to go looking for other threads.

I suggest you explain, briefly, what the situation is and how we can help you. Where is X stopping? What hardware are you using? That sort of thing.

    Thanks,

bproffitt has a point , you have to tell us where and how X is stopping. If you clearly communicate your problem to us we would be able to help you .

Have you made any changes to your system that would cause a problem? At the very least the logs seem to be using 2 different video drivers, although neither of the 2 I read showed any errors.

Can you explain what happens when you try and run X?

Re: about the other stuff i posted

Arg. It's not helpful to cross post in this way. While Ithe one about dual-booting is a seperate question and should be posted, the other one about your hardware basically overrides this one as it stands to reason that X will have problems (along with other things) if you attempt to use an old installation on completely different hardware.

I'm closing this post, but will leave it available for the attachments. I'll reopen it if the X problems remain after the other hardware issues are solved.
