Still have IBM Thinkpads for sale

As I've posted a couple of times previously, I'm selling a bunch of IBM Thinkpad T20's that I bought. They are steadily marching out the door with Windoze 2K, but I would really like to sell one with Linux on it to a JL member.
    They're going for $499.00.
    Here's the hardware specs:
    • Pentium III 700MHz
    • 256 MB RAM
    • DVD ROM
    • 20 gig Hard Drive
    • 1-USB, 1-VGA,1-S-video,1-parallel, 1-serial, 2-PCMCIA, 1-NIC, 1-modem
    • Rubberized titanium case
    • 14.1" screen
    • Battery, Power Cord

My wife has been using one for about 18 hours a day and it has hummed along quite happily, and it survived as a mobile video player on a road trip from Colorado to Maine and back, so I know they're tough.
If anyone's interested, pop me a PM.

Unemployment is not encouraging of investments in a high-ranged market.

In other words: I'm broke so good luck otherwise. I'd love to get a laptop though. I'd take one with half the clock speed and hard drive even if I could get one for cheaper. Either way though, somebody should be buying it as it sounds very nice.

I set one up for my wife and I'm really jealous. It's nicer than my one year old Dell Latitude!

You could always check out my eBay auction for the laptop(s) that the IBM replaced...

    Arrow Price Cut!!!

I really want to sell one of these with Linux, so here's the deal:
Same specs, but now it has a 40gig drive.
And I'll sell it configured with Slackware 10.1 for $400.00!

Is it possible to make the optical drive a CD-RW/DVD Combo? If you can, then it's game!

The optical drive is in a hot-swap bay and is easily changed. However, all the units I have are 8X DVD ROM's.
So I did a little eBay shopping and I find that a combo drive for the T series can be had for $80.00, while the DVD-ROM currently in it fetches a price of about $30.00

I would be willing to sell you the laptop without an optical drive for $50 less ($350.00) and let you purchase your own combo drive.
    or...
I can purchase the combo drive and install it, and charge you $475.00.

Let me know if either of these options works for you!

I had one, and I used SuSe 9.1 on it.
Positively brilliant, everything worked (Sound/video an' all, tho' I never tried the modem - we're all broadband over here.). IBM sure know how to make a laptop.
Sadly, one day while travelling betwen Oulu and Tampere on a train the driver stopped too quick, and the thing shot off the coffee table. Too expensive to repair (display and hard-drive buggered), so now I use my Compaq, X-xindowed from an IBM 600E. Miss that machine.
One thing I liked was the ability to load a movie from DVD to hard drive (legally, of course - I had bought the movie) then replace the DVD player with the extra battery. Once DeCSS/Mplayer was installed, I could watch a whole movie in transit from Europe to the US....

Folks - bite this fellla's hand off. They're excellent Linux boxes.

(OK, I only used SuSE on this, but it worked great. Didn't try another distro. Wish I had the money to buy another.)

I've also run it with Slackware, SimplyMepis, Ubuntu, Damn Small Linux and Zen Linux.

As opposed to my Dell, IBM seems to do things like volume control, power control, and suspend/hibernate in hardware, rather than through Windows.

The hardware suspend/hibernate is really cool. You can boot to a small live CD like DSL or SLAX and load the whole thing to RAMdisk. Then just hibernate it or suspend it indefinitely without needing to boot from the CD again. I ran one of these this way for over a week with DSL.

Haha well I'm a little over half way to 400 bucks. 215 about or so, so I don't think I can help you. It sounds like a great deal though, even without the 40gb HDD and stuff. Sorry man, doesn't look like I can help you out =/

Sure, if you're OK with the shipping amount. Where I work we frequently ship computer hardware to Asia and I can get you a firm shipping quote if you want. Just let me know.
