Gentoo firefox install problem
I'm running Gentoo 2005.0 (2.6.11-gentoo-r3) on my Pentium 4 laptop.
I have successfully done "emerge www-client/mozilla-firefox".
1) When I log on as a normal user, "startx" to go into Fluxbox, open eterm, type "firefox", I get the following message:
"No running windows found
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (1)."
firefox does *not* startup
2) When I log on as a normal user, "startx" to go into Fluxbox, open eterm, change to root user ("su"), type "firefox", I get the following message:
"No running windows found
*** some more Gdk-warnings that I won't include here ***"
then firefox starts up fine
What do I need to chnage to be able to use firefox as a non-root user ? Is this something to do with permissions, i.e. do I need to issue a few "chown" and "chgrp" commands ?
the output from "whereis firefox":
firefox: /usr/bin/firefox /usr/X11R6/bin/firefox /usr/bin/X11/firefox
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't fancy browsing with firefox as root user !

try backing up your ~/.mozilla directory and then deleting it. perhaps that will allow firefox to start, and then you can copy your bookmarks.html from the backup...

I had an old .mozilla folder kicking around in my home directory. As you suggested I did "mv .mozilla .mozilla_old", then reran firefox and everything is cool now !
Thanks je_fro. I notice from yur sig you're in Houston. Hope everything is ok with the hurricane.
