Success is must for a newbie to keep coming back. So I would recommend Ubuntu and Mepis. The first has the Gnome DE and the second comes with KDE. These two will give a newcommer to Linux a taste of what one can do. They just work. Later, when one feels comfortable jump on the Debian proper band wagon.

hi im glad to be in the forum it is my first time

You're onto something cool for newbies
Trying live CDs with different desktop environments like Gnome and KDE is a smart move. It's all about finding what clicks for us.
Plus, congrats on your 1000th post milestone
Linux journey's all about the adventure as I think

That would be: 'Putting up with and dealing with 'Super Cookies'...
Super Cookies are probably responsible for most of the intrusive hacky grief on the internet..
Super Cookies are like 'loaded guns in the hands of entitled drugged-out elitist spoiled brat kiddies'...
Would be nice if there was an 'SCS', a 'super cookie shredder', a cookie firewall program that filters, dismantles, and attaches a 'nannybot' to super cookies on their way in, and rips out its sticky parts, and quarantines those nasty little elitist anarchistic corporate-evil demons in a 'cookie-jar toilet', copying only its good qualities and useful functions and features of the cookie, sending a cleansed cookie through the maze, while adding a self-destruct mechanism to the cookie the moment it starts to work against the OS, converting it into a simple benign cookie, no longer an overly active oozing cancerous infection of hell-world's moralless mannerless manipulative insatiable money-sucking life-eating corporate-greed, feeding upon us like how wild african dogs feast on their alive prey... (YouTube surf: 'wild african dogs eating their prey alive', to get a sense and feel of what the soulless cannibal elitist Greeds are doing to our Internet, our Linux World, our Lives.. To them everything that tastes good is their food, especially us.. Youtube surf 'china human meat', and 'grab hags')..
Seems we need a serious cookie firewall between the internet and our computers, a secondary OS in front of the browser.. I'm trying a secondary scrapper computer that's always on and net connected without any security in it, to bait the bullies into attacking that one, not my netbook.. We need something that filters and processes the internet big time, essentially chopping off the kraken beast's tentacles as they reach to try to cling to the browser and OS before those vile little turds get their claws and sucker-tubes into the OS..
Then the internet would be less predatory, less intrusive, less manipulative, less ambushive, less stealing, less costly, less criminal, less evil, less offensive, less irritating, less war, less bullying, less inquisition, less hell... Evil attacks good.. That's what evil does as its way of life and living.. Killing good is what evil must do to exist and be fulfilled.. Linux is good, honorable, honest, respectable, and free, is why Linux is being attacked, stolen, cashed-in, and destroyed by money-hungry elitist greeds... The elitist's and evil's motto is 'nothing in life is free'... Read the Linux Philosophy.. Evil makes and enforces the laws.. To evil, Linux is immoral and illegal because it's free, loving, smooth functional, honorable, and kind... Evil devours good like how african wild dogs eat their prey alive, like how a rain storm destroys a cardboard box... Don't YouTube surf 'african wild dogs eating their prey alive, you'll wish you hadn't...

A simple suggestion? Wow.
Let's try simple.
Don't stop.
I tried every Linux I could back when Windows 10 and Yosemite for OSX was released. I even dual booted Windows, OSX and a few Linux distros.
I ended up with straight Arch as my choice to actually start. Because I was tired of not knowing what how why. Even though I still didn't know how what or why. I had a great running OS, modded nvidia drivers and sound porting, changed my window managers a few times. So I broke it a lot. But why I fell inlove with Arch. No matter what I was doing. I could fix it.
I recently tried exceptionally hard to do production on Windows 11. But I couldn't bare all the garbage anymore. The horrific way of handling a computer, literally, it is not great at buffering, writes things too many times to too many places for no reason, and it just leaves them there. It broke itself, constantly, and fixing it is nigh impossible in comparison. A lot of the time I really couldn't fix it actually.
Now I do not suggest that anyone does anything like that. But I went through my options.
This time I looked at Distro's as a whole, support etc if any, performance etc. I went with CachyOS and am very happy. First install was flawless, I went with KDE and a simple 80gb root on nvme with btrfs, but btrfs... IMO, is going to destroy my drives with what it does. XFS seems great for me. I can't say that the instructions align exactly with the installs. And I can't say that you can install any DE/WM on their list, because my install had failed. But KDE/GNOME/XFCE worked. LXQT did not. I can't say this will be the same for everyone. Just my experience.
Was impressed when I tried WINE. Ran some crazy complex applications. Failed horribly with simple authentication type of softwares. I kinda like that, even though I paid for those products. heh.

Nice informative thread for the newbie.. These members are most definitely the honest caring honorable Linux experts, the masters...
I've tried all the Linux OS's.. I believe the best Linux for a beginner to start with is 'Linux Mint Mate 20.. It's fully customizable, clean, quiet, and doesn't fight the user in any way like most OS's do.. It installs in 20-minutes, and can be fully customized in about an hour.. If you know windows you know how to operate this OS, and it's three times more customizable than windows, and it doesn't insult you with goofy petty advertising, insane redirects, engineered exploit holes, spyware, that gosh awful start up noise, dancing dogs, and forced updates and bs nasty unsolicited upgrades...
I suggest the novice install this OS, and dig into it after reboot, left and right clicking on, and changing literally everything in the OS, making all the mistakes, making a big mess in a fevered uncontrolled careless rush, not caring in the slightest that you are meticulously destroying the OS.. Have your curious fun, then take a break from the computer.. Then return, reinstall it, and make the right choices... Dump firefox and ufw.. Install Librewolf and Portmaster.. It is absolutely crucial you install the OS encrypting both the installation and home file folder.. Find the first encryption in the first click box when install starts.. Click the two boxes..
Today's internet war is powerful... Get used to using two passwords till the insane wars are over...
Look what china just did, they broke into America's government internet, and American's internet providers, and America's computers... And russia tried to cut internet sea cables..
To see what we are up against read in reddit about the seriously corrupt chinese opera browser... Look at the new Firefox, all the user friendly options and security has been removed from it.. Don't use the new Firefox, or you will so be sorry, use Librewolf.. Now days there is no such thing as a secure OS, nor a safe internet.. It's all war now... I can't stress enough the importance of establishing a secondary computer or a removable switchable extra hard drive that can't net-connect to store all your private precious lifetime computer data... One little bit of arabic evil on the Web could destroy everything you've saved..The global asylum kooks have just begun to attack the internet and the world's computers.. Millions will lose all of their computer data before the arabs insane war is over, plus we still have the kooks nukes to happen on some of our cities.. People will be turned into sticky stinky black stains on the bricks and cement.. That won't be fun...
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=linux+mate...&t=ffab&ia=web
But I can't find an ISO download I would trust these days.. I'm getting warning popups from Librewolf when I click on those download websites in that web search page.. Seems microsoft acquired Linux Mint, and is killing it with corruption, evil, and war... Register in any Linux Mint forum, and badmouth windows even the slightest, and into the thread comes the seven microsoft policy enforcer corporate police to start a flame war with you with their overly edited colorful copied pasted flame war battle-posts... I doubt you can get a Linux Mint Mate 20 ISO that hasn't been stolen and corrupted by the demons killing Linux, but try it anyway... Try to find a download from a little place.. Don't update it.. Recently I test updated a hard drive with 'Linux Mint Mate 20' in it, and all kinds of cyber-crap glitches suddenly happened in it, so I reinstalled boycotting updates again... Updates are corrupt for many OS's these days in this war against Linux, is why I've stopped playing gagagoogoo social on the Web... I use it for this forum, for protonmail, for the weather, for youtube Ukraine war updates, for war strategy messages to a few friendly governments, and for occasional google searches, that's it... I reinstall this OS in this valueless disposable netbook every two to three weeks to be sure it's clean of demon-doodoo...

I had a along chat with the microsoft AI-chatbot.. When I mentioned I had switched to Portmaster from ufw it relayed a lot of lying data about keeping ufw, and recommended using ufw instead of Portmaster, which tells me that ufw is corrupt and probably has engineered exploit holes.. Do so run synaptic to completely uninstall ufw and firefox in favor of installing Portmaster and Librewolf... It will make your OS a lot more secure...

UFW is a frontend to netfilter which is part of the kernel. Are you implying the kernel is corrupted and has engineered holes? I believe portmaster also accesses netfilter using nfqueue. There are many linux security people that try to find holes in applications and the linux OS. If that was the case I would expect something would of been found by now.
