Help Ban Long Signatures
Graciously, the site ops have made a 500 character limit on signature lengths. Unfortunately, there isn't a limit on new lines yet.
Vote on how many new lines a person should be allowed in their signature.

Does it really matter? Your current sig is the longest one that I've seen on this forum. My 2 cents is that people already have pretty reasonable signatures.

Allowing a limited number of new lines is an easily implemented feature to prevent possible abuse. Just because something has yet to be explioted, doesn't mean it won't be in the future. (Microsoft proves that time and time again. )

At least we don't allow images in the sigs, those are truely an eyesore!
-
screw them
Banish all sigs. Seriously.
- Nobody cares about what kind of computer you have, let alone the type of heat spreader on your RAM. (Your penis is still small.)
- Nobody thinks your little quote is funny.
- People can view your profile for more info.
Putting your distro there makes a bit of sense, I guess. There can be a new field for that though, it doesn't have to be in a sig. I don't mean this to anyone personally. We're just one step behind those gaming forums with huge graphical banners full of useless crap.

Yeah, but without all clicks on the link in my sig my site would never get any visitors (not true, but funnier this way). I don't really have a problem with most signatures, but then I've been known to be one of the offenders when it comes to too much text in my sig. As long as we never allow images I'm okay with them. Right now on another forum there's a guy with a sig image that simply says "scroll down" but the image is about 2000 pixels high. It was a joke, of course, but still obnoxious.
Oh yeah, just the other day I saw a guy on another forum trying to claim that his sig rig wasn't an epen-related thing. It was "because he could help people more effectively if they knew what kind of computer he had". Right.

Good point! Seriously big score on that one. I'm sure the ops have done a lot of other really great things here that we tend to take for grated everyday. Thanks guys.

Well, I don't really care about what computers others have, but sometimes someone has distribution, some good link or quote in their signature!
-
I'm going to have to say cut sigs to... 3 lines. that's more than enough for a quick quote or useful link.
Also, put other distro links in there beyond the one that is in the new field that should be created listing distro.
I just cut down my sig, as per dkeav's recomendation on IRC. This topic comes up a lot there.

To be honest anything up to 7 lines is fine. I don't read them. However I do Like it when members put some useful links in. i.e. help files forums etc.

I voted for the 3-6 range. Personally, I think I would like it at 5.

If you've got a problem with people's sigs, I suggest you go to User CP --> Options --> Thread Display Options.
That's a more effective solution than posts like this will _ever_ be.
