USB 2.0 devices not registering

Hi, this is my problem:

I've got an HP Pavilion zv5340us which is "supposedly" equiped with 3 USB 2.0 ports (information from thier site). When I start Linux, I have ehci-hcd, ohci-hcd and uhci-hcd being loaded by my autoload.d (I'm on Gentoo 64bit). When it's loading the ohci-hcd, it always takes a LONG time (ok, not so long, but close to 30secs is too much!). I checked dmesg and there are no errors in the output 9as far as I can tell) except:

PCI: cache line size of 64 is not supported by device 0000:00:02.2

Intersting facts:

• ehci-hcd recognizes 6 ports; I have 3 and a card-reader
• my USB thumb drive CAN use ehci-hcd
• my Logitech G5 CANNOT use ehci-hcd; it uses ohci-hcd
• Windows tells me that I have NO USB 2.0 ports! (driver problem?)
• there is no option in the BIOS for my USB stuff and I WILL NOT update my BIOS cause last time it killed my computer! and I can't afford to lose the month it would take to get it fixed!

Any ideas? The computer doesn't "recognize" the thumb drive until usb-storage tells it to. I don't see any devfs messages in the dmesg either, so I don't think that that could be it...

What happens if you disable UHCI?

If it isn't even seeing the ports in Windows then I would contact the Vendor and see what they have to say.

uhci-hcd unloading makes no difference in performance, as far as I can tell. It's unloaded now, so... Everything's working fine. The USB thumb drive works with just the ehci-hcd loaded. It's the mouse that won't work...

I could contact the vendor. I flashed the BIOS, unsuccessfully (what a horror when the computer "dies" in front of you but is still "on"!!!), before and it was sent in for repair. I think that this problem showed up after that. I'm not sure. But I don't think they replaced anything, at least nothing was marked as having been replaced... I also have usbhid loaded- does that make any difference?

the Windows I installed was not the Windows that came with the machine (I needed XPPro for school), so I really don't know. In fact, I think it has more to do with the Windows I installed than the computer itself, but seeing as how the mouse is not behaving correctly...

Okay, so what's thr problem? Your usb drive works, your mouse works...why are we here?

ok, first, I wanted to say that I did find the driver I needed for Windows and now it works (in Windows). I don't know why it didn't work before, but there you have it.

Secondly, why are we here? Because I would like my mouse to use the USB 2.0 capabilities that it has. I didn't pay $90 for nothing: it's a laser mouse and, if I am not mistaken, the amount of information it sends to the computer on it's highest resolution setting is a lot 9I couldn't say how much but it does 2000dpi ( or more??)). I dunno, if something is made for USB 2, isn't it better to have it working with USB 2 instead of 1.1? It DOES work, yes, but if it can work better, I would like to try and enable the USB 2 for the mouse...

PS- is there some reason that USBView shows the mouse in red, while it shows the thumb drive (using ehci-hcd) in black?

It always worked it just didn't work how it's supposed to... When the bandwidth is more than 40x smaller than it should be, I think that there is room for improvement, don't you?
