Rescue data from a mal-formed DVD?

I burned a bunch of info to DVDs while in Suse using k3b. Now, there was a growfs or growisofs error at the end, but I took out each DVD and put it back in. I could read all the data and copy it back to the computer, so I figured what the heck, it's all good...

Switched to Ubuntu and now my DVD are "empty" even though visual inspection shows that they are not... I guess they just didn't get finalized? What I want to know is if there is a way to recover this data. Google gives me a bunch of sites with windows shareware programs that look super-sketchy. There's got to be some way to do this, right? I mean, the FBI would be able to know which room I burned the disc in, and I can't even get my work back...

    Help?!

    Thanks in advance,

    Rinias

If Linux doesn't have the solution, you have the wrong problem.

first off you should make a copy of the disks to hard drive and then make a copy of that before messing around.
    Code:
    dd if=/dev/hdd of=disk.img
of course replace hdd with the proper device

The attack the image with a barrage of forensic tools!

It's not going to be a run this and you got it, it's going to take a lot of work and reading of the tools to do this.
You might want to start with "The Coroner's Toolkit" and "Foremost"

For a simpler solution pop in a Suse LiveCD and hop that it is able to read the disk like it did when you had it installed

    Good Luck!
