Getting ethernet card going
I want to install an ethernet card on my system (see specs below). It is a Netgear FA310TX. Do I need to do anything b4 installing it? How do I config KDE to work with it? Thanks for all the help in advance!
Main System:
HP Pavilion ZV6130US Kubuntu Hardy with KDE4
Office/Backup System
Custom-Built AMD K-6 System; Dual Boots Xp Pro and Kubuntu Hardy (Kde 3.5)

This may do you some good: http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...cat/149/page/1 , but I would guess that it would be autodetected and autoconfigured.

just issue "modprobe 8139too" and use whatever tools are availible to configure the interface...

So, in other words, it will be autodetected and I can use modprobe 8139too to config it? Please help as I am new at this

it will be detected when the module (8139too) is loaded and you'll get an interface eth0, eth1 or whatever. then use whatever gui config tools your distro supplies.

Alright, inserted the card, booted to kde. When I go to KNetworkconfig, I can see the card eth0, but it won't let me configure it. It says disabled, but it won't let me enable it. and yes, it is in admin mode.

I don't use the gui tools for this very reason: We have no idea what's really going on...

paste in here the output from "lspci" and "dmesg | grep eth"

lspci lists a lot of stuff, but in there it does say:
0000:01:12.0 Ethernet Controller: Lite-on Communications Inc LNE100TX (rev 20)
dmesg | grep eth states:
eth0: Lite-on 82c168 PNIC rev 32 at 0001e800, 00:AO:CC:D6:FC:E8 IRQ 10
EDIT: Seems 2 me like it just is not getting enabled. Maybe an entry to /etc/modules.conf?
