KDE loads, but something causes everything to crash

Hey everyone,

I'm having an issue with KDE and I"m having trouble
figuring out what it is exactly that is causing the issue.
I tried wiki.kde.org but that didn't seem like it had much
wiki info, it seemed more like a page for people to help and document KDE or something.

Anyway, so I tried just google and the main KDE page, but I
still couldn't find any info on where I can look to find out
what is actually happening and causing crashes.

When I get into KDE, I just don't have access to the panels.
The panels are there, well the first two are, and the other
two seem to fail to completely load. The first one has an
applet so that I can run a command without opening a shell.
This pannel used to be hidden from view and I had to
play with the hiding features so that it would appear again.
Once I did that, that seems to be when everything got
messed up. When I exited out of X and started it back up,
it took about 4 times as long to load and the panels no
longer had transparent backgrounds.

Then I had realized that this is probably because of
something that was in 10.2 and fixed in a patch or something
so I used swaret to upgrade all my software. When I rebooted
X seemed to load faster and the panels had a transparent
background, but neither the panel with the run command, nor
the panel with the clock on it, would load. After exiting X
again and starting it back up, changed nothing. I don't
know where else I can look for logs as to what is causing
what to crash or whatever.

If anyone has any information they think might be useful,
that would be greatly appreciated.

if worse comes to worse you can delete ~/.kde and start over.

Which version of KDE?
Try "xrefresh" in a console, if that helps it is probably the kompmgr program is causing problems (composite manager). Still a bug in KDE I believe.
Also, try keeping the transparency down to <75%, that may help, even at 50% if <75% doesn't do the trick.

Thanks for the info guys. I removed the .kde and rebuilt my desktop and everything works fine. It would have been nice to know what caused it though, ah well next time. Thanks again.
