what about 64-bit intel dual core ?

I've been browsing all the major linux distro sites and I'm seeing some support listing for 64-bit computing, and then they throw in (AMD64). Same as my search on Justlinux, it seems you all have AMDs. Will anyone stand up and say... "I have an intel dual core, and running a 64-bit..(insert linux distro), it works... (insert satisfaction comment)."

I just want to provide the best OS for my new baby (Pentium D 930 3GHz)

    Linuxhardware.org

The CPU is a different one but it shows linux 64 bit should run fine.

Again the mainstream Intel D840 runs linux with out problems. The only problem you may have is integrated sound but Intel does release Linux/Alsa drivers foir their hardware.
AMD, up until about a month from now, has held the edge in performance, but the new Conroe Intel CPU's are fixing to change the big picture when they are released.

I am using an Intel dual core 64 bit proc. Using the 64bit SMP kernel supplied by Ubuntu. And yes, the later Intel 64 bit procs use the same instruction set as the AMD. See below:
