    No sound in latest OpenSuse HDA_Intel.

    Chipset is an intel 945GM Mobile set for a laptop, Toshiba P105-s9722.

    On Ubuntu I had to disable ACPI to get sound so I switched Distros to Suse with the hope I wouldn't have to do that any more.

    Obviously, mission failed!

    Sound card is recognized but the test doesn't play anything in system settings.

    I will be monitoring this thread like a hawk so my responses will be quick! thanks!

    You could try one or both of these;

    Run /usr/sbin/alsaconf to make sure that part of things are right or check that sound is not muted.
    You can tuna piano, but you can't tune a fish.

    yeah, run alsamixer and unmute Main and PCM, and raise the volumes. Store the settings permanently with "alsactl store".

    Nothings muted. PCM is 100%, Master 100%.

    Is the audio chip ICH7-M? It should work with hda-intel module.

    If so, check that you have soundcore and hda-intel modules loaded.
