Application recording
I'm looking for something to create basically a video of interaction with a graphical application. The windows equivelent I've found is ghost mouse, but nothing really what I'm looking for under linux.
I've looked at vncplay, but it needs the application present in order to replay, since it basically just captures mouse events. I've found these types of applications have problems handling button clicks, and things of a similar nature...
Any recommendations?

I used that awhile back...worked okay. You can find tons of screen capture scripts at http://www.google.com/linux

You can also try this: http://xvidcap.sourceforge.net/
Captures directly to video. There's also something called Yukon, but it only works for OpenGL stuff.

Istanbul would be another choice. It even recorded a beryl session with no problems..

if you are doing serious training and want an avi output, VMWare will let you record a guests activity of the entire thing.
I used it to make a how-to-install-debian video, including the boot process, and what to type into the windows.
Might be over kill for what you are looking for, but i thought i'd mention it.

There's a good article on screencasting with Linux using virtual machines at http://popey.com/Creating_Screencasts
