    dvd problem

i tried to watch a DVD in Kaffeine Player and got an error message:

    ---
    xine message: Kaffeine Player

    The source can't be read.
Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or sources doesn't contain data (e.g. no disk in the drive). (Error reading from the DVD.)
    ---

then i tried watching the same DVD with Totem and got this message:

    ---
    Totem could not play 'dvd:///media/THE_DEPARTED'.
No URI handler implemented for "dvd".
    ---

can someone tell me what i need to do the view DVDs please? i know the DVD works, i watched it earlier.
i don't know if it matters or not, i'm using opensuse10.2.

you nead to install libdvdcss you can get it here:

    http://download.videolan.org/pub/libdvdcss/1.2.9/rpm/

...and then curse at the MPAA for coming up with that crap DVD encryption to attempt to "stop copying" in the first place. And the DMCA for preventing distros from redistributing the libdvdcss code, for that matter. (Not that the encryption does any good for its intended purpose: a DVD copying house will just copy the encrypted data. Duh.)

But until the DMCA is repealed or thrown out, or the distros (or DVD player software makers) make a deal with the MPAA to get a legal DVD decryption key (which costs quite a bit more than volunteers can come up with), you'll be stuck having to (likely) break the DMCA to watch the movie you paid for.
