    USB problems

    What does this
    Code:
usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
hub 1-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 6. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
hub 1-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 6. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9
usb 1-6: device not accepting address 9, error -71
usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10
usb 1-6: device not accepting address 10, error -71
mean when i plug something into a USB 2.0 port on my computer?
The USB2.0 device will be unusable. If i were to plug he same device into a USB1.0 port, things will work as intended, ofcourse at the smaller bandwidth of USB1.

This only happens if i plug a USB2.0 device into the port, so clearly the port/cable is working fine? Is it some problem with my kernel configuration?

Which distro? It looks like the device itself is throwing errors - are the errors the same across all devices?

It is possible that the port is bad, even if it accepts USB1 devices without noticeable problems.

Gentoo using gentoo-sources 2.6.20r8 as my kernel.

The USB2.0 port works nicely with windows xp. ill pop in my ubuntu live cd later and see if it works.

Yup.. the error is the same regardless of device i plug in. Same error as long as its a 2.0 device.

Certainly trying a livecd might help.

Presumably you have got all the USB2 modules loaded?
