    The thread starter here has a few hundred posts and has been a member since 2001. Perhaps he didn't ask the question as carefully as he might have, but why not cut him some slack and suppose he was concerned about the word "Core" rather than the number 6.

    Using that idea, there is a product known as Fedora Core 6 but there does not appear to be a product Fedora Core 10. So, what did the "Core" mean and why is it not used now?

    I don't know the answer -- haven't used any Fedora. But I think no answer is better than slapping a guy in the face because we didn't understand the question.

    It looks like the word "Core" was used in the nameing convenrion untill Fedora 7. From Fedora release notes page.

    No, it isn`t. The designation Core has been depreciated.

    F10 has some improvements over F6. Compiz-fusion has some nice desktop effects, including dragging applications between workspaces. Firefox 2 is upgraded to Firefox 3 and Flash 9 is upgraded to Flash 10. Removable devices (like flash and dvd players) are automounted and appear on your desktop as an icon. In general it is also more stable. You can find these features as early as Fedora 9.

    Fedora Core is the first open source desktop version of RedHat after they dropped their supported RedHat version. The last part of the Fedora name was dropped at about version 7, so now it's just called Fedora. If you want the open source Enterprise version of RedHat you would use CentOS.

    I`m actually sorry they dropped Core. Googling "FC6" would give you a rational result.

    P.S The Enterprise version of RedHat is also open source.
