    How do I determine the "hw:*"

    Hi;

    Sound cards in alsa and others are given hardware IDs like "hw:0,0". To use the 'adevice' option in mplayer with alsa I need to know the hw: numbers.

    How do I find those numbers and does anyone know a good source for an explation of "hw:*", "plugin:*" etc. I have googled and been unsuccessful finding any manual reference.

    you can run "lspci" or as root run "lshw". Either one will give you the hw address of your devices.

    For other info see http://foldoc.org/
