    Killing resize2fs

Hi all, I had vanish for a good long time and im back now.

I have a little question here, if i were to kill resize2fs before it completes shrinking a partition, will I lose data?

Ahh.. ic.. then i have to pray that power doesn't get cut to my lab.

Another thing, any rough estimates how long does it take to resize a 1.7TB (yes, you read it right, i had no idea what the previous admin was thinking) partition that with only about 300GB filled to 500GB?

I would leave it for at least half a day or definitely overnight. You can't rush it.

It is a lot quicker if you can dump the data onto another storage medium, delete the partition, recreate it to the desirable size, format it and copy the data back. However this solution doesn't work well if the moved system has to be bootable.

There is a lot of juggling of files in resizing a partition especially if there isn't much space in the hard disk.

Ah well.. Its gonna be left running i guess. Too bad i don't have any other storage with sufficient capacity. Good thing is that theres alot of free space left on that partition.

    Thanks
