    C# .Net Developement/Software

I am looking for a development application that I can do C#/.Net work on, I know that C#/.Net is Microsoft based.

I looked into "Mono" the only problem I can see is with the "GTK" attachment,
my teacher at school doesnt want these added attachments.

So really Im looking for a software vendor/development application that doesnt have this attached.

I have googled, and found nothing. Any help would be great.

    half done

I looked at that, might use it. I found gtksourceview, I like it runs well with gedit, now looking for a compiler. but thinking about it, I may just compile it under the student software, not a big microsoft fan though.

    thanks for the help

Since most of the time I'm coding for a windows machine (bleh) at work, I either write on Linux and compile in Windows (do this for C and such) or do it all in windows (for windows scripting like VB).

At any rate, check out this link. It has a list of the common IDE's.

EDIT => Out of my own curiosity I looked up a few. It seems most are for C/C++ not C#. Mono seems to be the answer for C#. So in the end you may be compiling in Winblows like me. I was hoping for a gcc extension to take on C#.

    trilarian,

I have found myself doing the same process as yourself, I use gtksourceview and then I compile it later after transfering it from usb from linux laptop to ms pc. Not a huge fan of mono, but until a better method comes out, Ill stick to what works.

    thanks a bunch

Though I disapprove of mono, it looks like MonoDevelop might be what you want. Seems that it saves to VS2008 format too so your work in Linux should import into Windows seamlessly. At least until Microsoft reaches the extinguish phase of embrace, extend, extinguish.

    C#

Are you working on desktop applications for MS?

I currently work with asp.net, wcf, and console applications all in c#. I am able to build and compile them with monodevelop on openSuSE 11, then run the applications on windows. I have projects from .net versions 1.1-3.5, that work fine from this approach. Its helpful for me as some of my development work is also done from my MAC, and with mono I can switch between the linux and MAC with no problems. Then I can run the applications on the MS servers at my company, without having to recompile!

Ive been using gtksourceview due to lightweight nature of the application, I believ it was some 400k in file size, and I can run it default though gedit or a text editor. mono is alright. not my thing, all about preferences.

I can compile my work on my desktop, not to hard, and I keep all my files together on my flash drive.

So you write in Linux, save to a flash drive, move the drive to Windows, then compile? That sounds incredibly tedious. Do you just not like Windows editors?

Thank you for criticizing me and telling me that your way is better cybertron, but I prefer the lightweight application I can do my work under, and until someone develops a lightweight csc in linux, I will continue on my way, don's fix it until its broken.

Sorry If I have offended you.

I mean no offense, it's just that the difference between pressing a button to compile and having to copy files to a completely different system to do it suggests to me that you must have some very good reasons for doing so. I was honestly curious what they were.

my laptop is somewhat slow, and mono is graphical the gtksourceview runs in the background of gedit, so it doesnt take much to run it, I was looking for something lightweight. As I stated early in the thread, I didnt much care for mono and was looking for something else, kinda a bummer no one has made a simple C# compiler.

    none taken.
