Abra343,
Welcome to Justlinux!
The answer to your question can be written in several volume of books.
You should find Linux is a faster system as there is no in-build programs to stop you from migrating to other PC, keep a record of licenses of very program you use, verifying your authenicity of your license, copy your PC information back to M$ corpration etc , etc...
To get from A to B Linux gives you the most direct route.
Part of Linux originated from Mini and Mainframe computers and can access to PC hardware in depth beyond MS Windows ability.
In usage the two are very similar. You should have your personal data (files, photos, video, spreadsheets etc, etc) operable in either system.
Linux does not charge you for the operating system but supply you all the programs free. You have to take what you are offered. In the majority of cases this is more than you ever need.
I think it is fair to say as an operating system there is nothing you can do in Windows that you can't do it in Linux. However for commerical reasons there are third party computer programs only available in MS Winodws.

With Linux, you will always get more that you pay for; with MSFT and Apple... not so much.

If all you need is Firefox and Thunderbird, just put a big grassy hill background on the desktop and nobody will know the difference
