    How fast a Linux boots?

Just managed to assemble a PC together with

    Asus Sabertooth Z77 motherboard
    Intel i7 3770k 3.5GHz CPU
    16Gb Ram @ 1866MHz
PNY Geforce GTX 670 2Gb video card
2x240Gb Corsir Force GT Sata III SSD

I used the 2 SSD to form RAID0 (stripe mode) and put a Ubuntu and Windows 7 into the combined 480Gb mapper drive. Took me a while to beat the UEFI bios into submission.

The machine from switch on to Grub = 17 seconds. This is the Bios loading itself that I can't alter.

Ubuntu : From Grub to login screen 7 seconds, after typing the password another 2 to 3 seconds to full operational state. To switch off that takes 9 seconds.

Windows 7 : From Grub to login screen 12 seconds, typed in password it is another 5 seconds to fully operational state. It takes only 4 seconds to switch off.

When I checked the Raid0 with hdparm the buffer read was 675Mb/s

A standard Sata II (I think) 128Gb SSD on its own registered 185Mb/s.

A single Sata III Seagate 3TB hard disk registered 187Mb/s.

It seems a Raid0 formed by two SSD does give awesome speed.

Wonder if other members have tried other methods of accelerating the boot time.

I'm sorry....are you saying that 10 seconds too long for you?

If so, try suspend...might wake up quicker than a full boot.
