    Chat utility options

I am looking for a cheap and dirty open source chat product.

The situation is we have a corporate IM tool (Lotus Sametime), but in the event that it goes down, I would like a means by which the admins can still "real time chat" internally.

Short of setting up a Openfire/jabber server, how can a small group of people have a running dialog going "under the covers" ?

    Did you check Pidgin?

Pidgin is only a client, not a server.

Using gchat or fb-chat would require us all to have a common "network" and be friends on it prior to the disaster.

In the end it doesn't matter...I've left that job.
