Good day. Can I just state to anyone who cares that the so called "helpful linux community are the least helpful group of people I have ever come across. I have considered linux for years, and everytime I try it I run into a some small problem that could be solved by some advise, documentation or just a nudge in the right direction, everytime asking on every available forum, hours of searching the web for answers, getting vaguely explained pieces of code thats supposed to solve all problems, ending up formatting the computer and resorting to Microthiefs, the amount of times this comunity has let me down makes me realize why its nearly impossible for someone like my, who used dos, migrated to windows, and have been using it since day one, to migrate to linux. There simply is no help for absolute beginners, the closest I have gotten to getting advice was 2 people hijacking a thread on another forum and fighting over my problem, none of which has come up with a solution yet.
If there is someone out there who are really willing to help pls message me, I have a few silly problems but with my low knowledge about linux and zero help from forums and online, I will never be able to completely make the switch even though it would be so rewarding to make the shift from Microthiefs
There might be a users group in your area that might provide some one on one help. From your brief description it does not sound like a silly little problem.

I just downloaded,and tested 10 of the new Linux OS's offered.. They are not user friendly like they claim.. They're scary and 'piece meal'!.. They are like 'tossed salad with all the old kitchen scraps added'.. Into the trash-pail went the CD's, and I deleted the ISO's from my archives.. T'was a massive nightmare, a waste of time, a waste of 10-CD's...

Make the CD..
If you are switching from windows there's a chance that there's bad stuff hidden on the hard drive, and the windows OS might not allow a Linux install.. That's easy to bypass...
To clean the widows hard drive of all its evils there are ways to format it clean.. One way is to connect the hard drive to a computer's USB via an SSD to USB connector.. They are cheap ($4 to $20)... Then format the hard drive.. Another way is to acquire an ISO of DBAN, make the CD, and reboot the computer with DBAN in the CD slot.. At prompt, key-in 'autonuke', and press enter, and let it erase your hard drive.. Might take a couple hours.. It is absolutely crucial that you don't have any external media attached to the computer while DBAN is cleaning the hard drive, or it will so erase your media back-up fast and hard..
Reboot with the Linux Mint CD in the slot, without a net-connection.. Do so double encrypt the install so hackers cannot modify the OS, nor read and steal your files... You'll find the first encrypt option hiding in the little box on the forth question.. Check the two boxes... No net connection yet... Reboot.. Boycott and Ignore 'welcome screen'.. Click it off.. Exit update manager, bluetooth, and concerns.. Never open them, not ever...
Got to menu>control-panel>start up aps.. Uncheck everything visible in start up aps..
Go to Synaptic.. Uninstall: Firefox, Transmission, Hexchat, UFW, Bluetooth, careful to not uninstall Network Tools.. As the last thing to remove, pick at Bluetooth to get rid of it, by picking and applying without downloads till most of it is flushed out.. Reboot..
To get the tabs to show in the bottom toolbar, right click the spaces between icons to unlock them, then click 'move', and slide the blanks to to right till the tabs show..
Add Bleachbit from a flashdrive.. Add only: bleachbit_4.4.2-0_all_ubuntu1804.. Configure Bleachbit without a net-connection.. Do so uncheck Bleachbit's update... Don't add Bleachbit from Synaptic.. That one could corrupt or damage the OS.. The newest Bleachbit isn't compatible with the old Linux...
Run Bleachbit hard, after unchecking: custom, clipboard, memory, free disk space, and localizations..
Now net-connect, and change Sources to a trusted university and/or wiki.. Reboot..
Add an older version of Portmaster from a flashdrive, its data acquired from Portmaster Archives: https://gitlab.com/librewolf-communi...ster-installer deb.
if you can find it.. If not, add Portmaster via this website: https://safing.io/download/
Portmaster is your firewall.. It replaces UFW with something much better.. Install and Reboot..
Now add Librewolf to replace Firefox..

Configure Librewolf without a net-connection.. Uncheck updates...
Don't ever update this OS.. The corrupt updates will damage and corrupt the OS.. The updates will upgrade Bleachbit, plus add hundreds of corrupted bits of unscrupulous corporate update trojan crap and criminal exploits...
Left click internet icon, and the connection, and the little tool-gear.. In 'general' uncheck auto-connect...
It's good practice to disconnect the net when it's not being used during these days of WW3... There's a terrorism cyber war going on out there, and it's gonna get much worse in a couple months.. Crazy cocaino-damaged hacker narcissist bully people are having their delusional 'god-sanctioned' twisted-libido-fun damaging innocent defenseless peoples property and lives.. Left click the toolbar, and 'add to panel'.. Add: 'force quit' and 'shut down'...
Put all your desktop stuff in the bottom toolbar.. Leave the desktop clean for your favorite background picture...

In home file uncheck side pane in view.. Go to edit preferences..
Right click desktop, and uncheck 'keep aligned'..
In 'Text' in Menu, in Preferences, click Monospace, and again, and at the bottom change the font size..

Make some ISO CD's of Mint for your friends who want to dump windows too.. DVD's are cheap these days if you shop around.. I acquired 300 blank DVD's from a couple garage sales for $5 total, and another 300 from the used stuff store for $4 total.. $9 for 600 good blank DVD's..
It's important you acquire notebook hard drives.. Soon the only source for hard drives will be garage sales and the garbage.. You can make your own external hard drives...
I watched a 10-yearold install this Linux OS start to finish as I've detailed it.. It's oh so easy... You can do it... Escape from windows.. Free yourself from the bullies playground and dinner plate...

Tip: Don't sit on a cushion on your chair.. That's what gives you the infamous sore bum 'computer butt'.. Use a folded soft small polar-fleece blanket as the cushion instead, or best would be a folded small sheepskin with the soft leather side up..
Tip: Don't leave the notebook running for hours while you're away from it.. That's what kills notebooks...
Tip: Never ever place a drink on the desk or table between you and the computer.. Always have the drink far off to the side, so you don't spill the drink on the keyboard by accident.. It's good practice to store a drink set in a bowl, or set on a plate, at least a foot away from the keyboard...
Tip: Don't ever open suspicious emails from anyone you don't know, nor marketing, nor free offers, nor from firefox, nor from mozilla, nor from someone you don't have solid reason to trust.. Never open spams... If you think an email might be a scam or an attack, before opening it surf it's header on google, adding 'is a scam', 'is a virus'.. It's best to dump all your email accounts in favor of just a ProtonMail account.. They don't read nor control your emails...
Tip: In saving pix, if it's a 'webp', click cancel, and save it as a screenshot, then edit it in Gimp..
Tip: Never ever snoop in a stranger's retired scrapped old hard drive at someone else's private stuff ('crap').. You'll wish you hadn't.. Your head becomes like it's their toilet.. You will never get rid of those thht memories.. Format the device immediately without opening it, same with retired old phones you've acquired to reuse, reset them immediately.. Tip: Before you house clean, turn off all the electronics, and cover keyboards and such with a cloth.. And cover the heat vents, or switch the furnace off.. The cooling fans will suck in the airborne dust... Before I patch and repaint in a house I always cover all the electronics in plastic bags to keep the dust off and out.. Dust kills electronics...
Never ever vacuum gyproc sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner.. The extremely abrasive dust will totally destroy the vacuum cleaner's motor's bearings... Take the vacuum cleaner to the coin carwash, dismantle it, and give it a good spraywash cleaning.. Switch it on, then plug it in without touching it when it's wet.. Let it run 15-minutes to dry the motor.. Dry the filters in the sun after spinning them out in the laundry machine...
Tip: If you are unsure about a download, google surf it, adding 'is malware' to the search.. Insane moralless unscrupulous demonic devolved people are incorporating spyware in downloads... Hell believes it owns the internet, heaven, us, and this universe...
Tip: Never leave anything you want to keep in the notebook that you don't have a back-up copy of.. Maintain a running up-to-date back-up...

Tip: When a lightning storm is happening, and the lightning strikes are too close, immediately unplug all your electronics...
Tip: I never click on those 'we use cookies' pop-ups in webpages.. They can add malware to the OS.. I see those pop-ups and I go elsewhere in search of honest clean honorable respectable websites.. Now days during WW3 it's the websites that are the malware, this poor ole internet is saturated with: organized crime, thieves, terrorists, bullies, war, devils, and religion...
Tip: If you are experiencing hassles by forever accidentally clicking the caps-lock button, glue one of its sides with a bit of super-glue.. It'll never happen again...

Tip: You don't need to change nor damage your windows hard drive.. You can leave it intact.. Just buy another hard drive, and install Linux onto it, and save the windows hard drive for games and your old habitual windows stuff.. You can learn how to change hard drives in your notebook model in YouTube videos.. It's all too easy.. All you need is a fine philips (star) screwdriver to change to the windows hard drive when you need your windows stuff...
I recommend the new first time user goes through everything in the Mint 20 OS, making silly changes, trying out everything, making all the mistakes, making a huge mess.. Then reinstall the OS and make the right choices...

If you made your Linux ISO DVD with windows, there's a chance that it's corrupted by silly glitches... Good plan is to toss it into the trash, and make a couple ISO DVD's with Linux.. Always have a couple ISO DVD's of Linux Mint Mate 20.3 on hand ready to give to someone who wants to escape windows. A Bell repairman was here a month ago upgrading my internet electronics to the latest things.. I saw he had an interest in my Linux desktop, so I gave him my ISO DVD of Linux Mint, then rushed through the OS showing him all the critical items: control panel, terminal, synaptic, various customization's, protonmail.. He tested the Logitech marble mouse.. I wager he has one by now...
When you first bring up Gimp, go to 'Windows', check 'single-window mode'..
In 'edit>preferences' change icons to 'legacy'..
In 'appearance' uncheck everything but: 'show menubar' and 'show scrollbars'..
In toolbox uncheck 'use tool groups'.. Uncheck all the tools you won't need, and check 'brightness-contrast'..
In 'paint options' uncheck everything but 'brush'..
In 'export file type' change to jpg..
In 'export policies' uncheck all but the top one..
In 'image windows' change mouse pointer to 'tool icon'
Save your pix editing work by clicking 'file' and 'overwrite', then X and discard.. If you aren't sure if you'll lose something you might want saved of the pix when you overwrite save it, make a copy-paste to the desktop of it from home file before you overwrite save it so you'll have a backup copy in case you've made editing mistakes..
With Audacity you drag a music video to the audacity window.. You can cut-out the parts of the tune you don't want with the scissors icon.. You can copy and paste bits of the tune to make long clean loops.. You save your work by 'export as mp3' to the desktop..

Always disconnect the internet when you aren't using it..
It is crucial that the ground wire to your house plumbing is working properly.. Check the water meter to determine that the ground wire connection isn't corroded pale green.. If it is, undo it, and clean it well with a wire brush, wearing rubber gloves and a dust mask.. Reattach the wire solid and tight being careful to not stress the meter and the water-pipe connections to the meter, then spray the cleaned connection with some varnish, or apply some grease.. If the meter shut-off valve handle is seized, don't heavily force it with a tool.. To repair it, probably the water needs be shut-off to the building, and the valve's insides (tap) be replaced with new parts.. Grease it well with silicon grease, not with vaseline nor car grease which damages rubber seals... You know the house plumbing connection is corroded and disconnected when a little static spark near the computer causes the computer or screen to crash, or the tv pix to jump around when you are touching or walking near the tv... Without proper grounding, electronics can overheat and fail... There's a lot more to electronics besides a plug and a wire, and an off/on switch... Scientists created everything we've got... Respect science.. "If I were to give you a high quality hatchet, and send you out into a jungle with only your axe, how long would it take you to build the required sciences to send me an email"..
In configuring Librewolf it's crucial you:
Uncheck Performance settings..
In Home set it to 'Blank Page'..
In Search set it to 'Start Page'.. You can make a google bookmark-tab later..
For weather reports try 'accuweather.com'
Uncheck everything in 'Address Bar'..
In 'Search Shortcuts' delete everything but 'Start Page'..
Uncheck: bookmarks, tabs, and history..
In Privacy set a simple primary password..
In Permissions block it all..

To get the desired picture to the desktop, you click 'take screenshot', save to desktop, add it to Gimp, size it, smudge-out some of the clutter, save changes, right-click on the pix, set it as wallpaper..
But it's not wise to be leaving a notebook on running for hours just to display a pix.. Leaving notebooks on for hours kills notebooks from the heat, especially the expensive full featured notebooks.. Purchase a picture viewer for that.. These days you can acquire electronic picture viewers for $2 each from garage sales... Wash it off with bleach and detergent, rinse, dry, plug it in, delete the stuff in it, add your favorite pix, and let it display your pleasure...
Tip: It's crucial that you sterilize everything you acquire used.. Fabric goes directly into a bleach laundry load.. Wash-off the bugs, bacteria's, molds, dander, viruses, from those filthy used items before you bring them into the home.. Used clothing stores are the worst for spreading lice infestations... Every human itch is a lice parasite feeding on blood... Coke is such a big hit because it numbs out the lice itches...
It's a good plan to wipe everything you acquire from garage sales with alcohol hand sanitizer before you handle it and before you bring it into the home..

I found a highly venomous chinese horned spider nesting in my north american front yard.. I gave it to the university... I found three chinese garden pests in my veggie garden two years ago.. To save pix to the desktop click up a saved pix, and drag it to the desktop with the cursor.. It's a good plan to have a mouse attached to the notebook...

Download the ISO of 'ReactOS', make the CD, and install it.. There are quality YouTube videos instructing how to install 'ReactOS'.. Supposedly 'ReactOS' works on old obsolete computers, after windows-10 died, and the new crap is coming out.. Now I'm reading that microstuf is making its OS so people will need to buy their new computers to run it, "Oink Oink Thht!"... So sad that big business can't think 'how can their product help humanity'.. All they can think of is 'how can we squeeze as much money out of humanity as possible in the shortest time at the littlest cost?'...
You can't make the ReactOS ISO CD using Linux, so download it with a windows OS, because it must be a windows OS to make the CD.. If you download it with Linux the ISO doesn't show to transfer it to an external media, and it's probably Linux corrupted, so this 'ReactOS' is obviously 'absolute' windows...
I was gonna test it out, but I google surfed it, and it doesn't work with iTunes, which is all I use windows for, so I'm not gonna bother with ReactOS till it works with iTunes. Would be nice if there was a little iTunes OS, exclusive for iTunes, but f'lapple' would have to do something honorable, so it can't happen...
