If it comes to flash or USB-Stick - do you still use them!?

Well - what's your situation? What's your practice here? Do you still use USB sticks? Do they still play a role for you, or have other storage locations and (backup) methods become more important and replaced the good old USB stick?

Sure - great. I don't do backups on sticks either. There are other methods - we've discussed them here several times.

Nevertheless: The USB stick isn't obsolete here yet. :angel

So what role does the USB stick still play for you?

PS: I'll start:

For me, it's especially interesting when it comes to

a. having a live version of an operating system (Linux)
a.1 to take a look at a system I don't know yet -
a.2. also for fresh installations

b. In the past, there was also something like a disaster recovery system - a system for data recovery, etc., etc. - Knoppix.
But these days, you can do a lot with the countless live systems anyway...

and other things too - so a USB stick is almost always on your desk....
Motto: small, handy, and sometimes without the cloud - at hand... and to take with you...

And how is it for you?

I use flash drives for installing linux and copying files. A USB stick is flash memory.... I don't consider them good for backups.

many thanks for the reply - and for sharing your ideas and your use-case. Fully agreed : there are better options for doing backups in these days.

Using them for creating iso-sticks - that are used for installation of linux is a very good idea.

to do some (that is : to create ) installing - iso the usb-stick is a great and very helpful thing.
