The provider service-tech found the optical wire from the box to the new modem was defective.. He said he changes a lot of those connecting wires, that It's because the installers must bend the tiny optical cables to get them to fit into the little plastic boxes mounted on walls, and the constant torque tension on the wire eventually breaks the glass threads in the optical cable near the connector end...

Probably a good plan would be to have the installer not bend the little cable, but to leave it dangling free out of the little box...
