Super Newbie Questions - Mandrake 8.0

I have a few questions. Since some may require a lengthy answer, feel free to email me.

#1 - I enabled the "Experimental 3D support." Everything that is GL or 3D is very slow. I am using an ATI Radeon DDR 64MB. I have Xfree86 4.1, though the video card is not understood by Mandrake. Any ideas?

#2 - Any ideas on playing DVDs? I have a Creative DVD player, and it is recognized correctly by Linux.

#3 - The beta of Mandrake 8.1 - what do I download and how do I install it?

    Thanks!

    1. I don't know, never used a Radeon.

    2. There a bunch of DVD players. The easiest one to get working is probably xine, you can download it here: http://seawolf.freshrpms.net/
    (xine site: http://xine.sourceforge.net/)
Note that if you don't have proper drivers for your video card you may not be able to play DVD's without skipping frames.

    3. If you wait a few weeks it will go final, I highly suggest waiting. You can get Mandrake iso links from www.mandrake.com, www.linuxiso.com or linux.tucows.com
When you do go to download it you may want to read the iso instructions there, but you just download the iso files and burn them to a couple CD's.
