    Network Busy in Win98

When I browse the Network Neighborhood I can see the Linux server running samba. When I click on it I get a Network Busy error. How do I correct the problem?

Perhaps posting your /etc/smb.conf (or wherever it your samba conf file is named/stored) would help.

Are there any shares being made on the computer that has samba running?
You don't know the power of UN*X.

    GM,

it's a problem with your resolv.conf file. when you try to map a drive from a win98 machine to a samba shared drive, the linux box tries to resolve the win98 box via DNS. This causes a delay that causes the win98 box to give you this error. Change the Resolve.conf file to point to the localhost and thus fail imediately.

    good luck...

    Thanks

Many thanks for posting the above hint. (Yes I know this thread is nearly 10 years old, but it worked for me)

It solved my issues Ubuntu 10.04 ( Samba 3.4 ) had connecting with a Windows 98 machine.

I had already edited samba.conf to support client lanman auth, lanman auth and client plaintext auth.
