change login managers?
that's about all i can think of. try xdm or kdm or gdm or whatever you are not using.

Hi
My default login manager is kdm and it doesnt work w/ Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
I tried gdm from the CLI and Ctrl+Alt+Bspace seemed to work. I guess I should be thankful for gdm.
So now how do I change the login manager so that runlevel 5 boots right to gdm?
Thanx.

should be an option for default display manager somewhere. I dunno in mandrake...
Well, looking around, I came up with this, that may work.
in /etc/sysconfig/desktop
there are 2 possible lines.
Code:
DESKTOP=KDE (or gnome)
DISPLAYMANAGER=GDM
That should do it... should. I haven't tested though. make sure you install gdm as well.

Yes, that does work in Mandrake.
the desktop file just contains one line on my system:
It was kde before I changed it. (mouse freezes on both dm's)

Then I don't know Hopefully someone else will be able to help you out.

Have either of you checked your X logfile for any errors
grep EE /var/log/XFree86.0.log
and the system logfile for any resource conficts etc.
less /var/log/messages
PgUp - PgDn
'q' to quit less
Check your bios settings for the com ports, power management, PS/2 etc.

Nice
I took a look at my /etc/sysconfig/desktop and there was no DISPLAYMANAGER=sumthing line.
I put one there and now my mouse is working a whole lot better after logging out. Only that on very few occasions, (i.e after 6-7 times logging in and out) it sumhow freezes. Nevertheless it's much better than before.
Here's the whole thing :
DESKTOP=KDE
DISPLAYMANAGER=GDM
Grepping the XFree86.0.log file soon.
Thanx.

SOLVED...
I finally got round to installing the nVidia drivers for my GeForce4 last night.
The problem has now stopped.
Another one down, only a couple more hundred to go!

Hi
Good news my mouse doesnt seem to freeze anymore, no matter how many times I log in and out!
Those log files dont turn up w/ anything to do w/ gdm or mouse. So I take it all is fine as far as the rodent is concerned
Thanx.
