Cannot change screen resolution in Mandrake Linux 9.0
Hi, I installed the nvidia glx and kernel tarballs.
I had a few error messages but everything seemed to go ok once I installed GCC (doh)
But I still can't change screen resolutions
The only way I could install I had to choose a Geforce 2 Intergrated running at a res of 600x480 (16bpp) using the 3.? version of X, this is the ONLY configuration that worked for me on the installation screen (Belive me, I tried them all)
I've installed the new drivers and edited the config files in X
but I still can't select the proper card in the list and it doesn't let me change my resolution from anything over 600x480, it says it's changed to 1024 but its lying!
Can anyone suggest anything? I'll give you my whole spec
Toshiba 2410 Laptop
Geforce 4 Go! 420 (32MB)
256 DDR RAM
DVD/CD-RW
Microsoft Optical Intellimouse
Intergrated laptop keyboard
1024x768 TFT Screen (14") with a refresh rate of 60Hz
Thanks guys

When you say
I've installed the new drivers and edited the config files in X
do you mean you have installed the drivers that you downloaded from the Nvidia website ? (www.nvidia.com) The drivers for Nvidia cards that come with X are not always as upto date as the drivers from Nvidia. Also the Nvidia drivers are not installed using the regular XF86Setup utility.
The best bet is to download the latest drivers and follow the instructions on the Nvidia website to install the drivers for your card. That should get you the best resolutions as well as 3D support for your card !

Lol
Yeah well, I'm having problems installing the tarballs anyway, I get all sorts of errors, I'm also having trouble editing my config files... My graphics card was installed as a "Geforce 2 (Intergrated)".. So do I just leave it like that or do I have to tweak some more other than delete GLCore and Dri and add "Load GLX" and "Driver = nvidia"?
