Open Source software and Digital Sovereignty
Following a very successful first edition of the Open Source Conference in combination with the LibreOffice Conference, this year we invite you to participate to discover how organisations and institutions from the EU and around the world use and contribute to Open Source software.
Open Source software, together with data sovereignty, form the basis to achieve Digital Sovereignty as an inclusive effort where all the participants cooperate to create the tools we need to protect our data while sharing the technologies that improve everyone?s digital lives.
This year?s main tracks provide the opportunity to share the experiences of those that have chosen to produce and implement Open Source tools and platforms that improve security, resilience and data protection


Public sector
The public sector has always been one of the major market drivers for the acquisition and implementation of many technologies and standards.
More recently various public sector organisations and institutions have become not only users of Open Source software but also active participants in the development and funding of many projects. Let?s hear from some of the involved parties about their journey from being passive users of technologies to being active contributors to small and large projects and how their Open Source Programme Office (OSPO) helped with the transition.

Artificial Intelligence
Despite the hype and the recreational uses of new tools that make intensive use of power hungry GPUs there are many areas where Large Language Models (LLMs) and Algorithmic Inference (aka Artificial Intelligence or AI) can bring real benefit to organisations and society.
To make these systems effective they need to ingest large amount of data which often include personal and sensitive information making offerings from hyperscalers unsuitable for many uses.

Many Open Source projects aim to democratise AI allowing small and large organisation to benefit from these new tools while protecting the data being used and reducing the environmental impact of these technologies

Cyber Security
In a world where practically every device is or has a built in computer security should be the main concern for everyone. Open Source software helps in reducing the attack surface but it still requires experts that hunts for potential vulnerabilities and coordinate eventual

LibreOffice is not only a Free and Open Source office suite, is also an educational project that can also be used to teach how to contribute to large projects in many ways.

I still don't get it..? Why even be the slightest interested in 'conferences..? All we need is a secure fast snappy computer on the table or desk that works for filing, editing, and playing with: notes, pix, videos, and music.. We can't trust the internet to be secure for finances. as the internet is now owned and operated by organized crime... Why make the bludy computer be one's whole life..? It's just a kiddie-toy, a desktop tool like: the telephone, like the pen and note pad, like the stove, like the pressure cooker, like the teevee, like the gagagoogoo go-fast zoomzoom weeeeeeee! carcar.. Why let the damn toy own you..? There's more to life than just a gagagoogoo toy.. What the hell is the value of conferences..? Why get sucked into following and forever trying to be an integral part of the insane ever evolving state of the art ultra-modern crashing falling-apart thht-world..? It's all just organized crime and insanity bull-sheit turning into rage, suicide, and war.. Our species and planet is 100% extinct in 8-years anyway.. What good is a computer to you when you are just a cloud, blob, or gooey slimy coating on the ground of smelly bio-toxic moist dust..? What's the value of conferences, when humanity's real problems are in the constant threat of the impending new world order cannibals zombie apocalypse, our food going extinct from WW3 radiation, ever increasing global pollution, huge storms, earthquakes, volcanic dust, acid rain, wild hogs, komodo dragons, crop raiding apes, coyotes, wolves, sharks, engineered disease plagues, pestilence, organized crime, murderous drug cartels, swamp-class crime-infiltrated democracy, and religious inquisitive insanity..? Almost no one is even slightly aware of any of it.. If they don't know about it, then to them it isn't happening.. Our species is suiciding, and most of us are totally oblivious to it, like a herd of sleeping sheep that don't know the field and forest on the other side of the mountain is a raging inferno... Am I the only one who can smell and see fire and smoke..? It's like a huge mile tall tsunami is approaching the shore where a million laughing giggling half naked tourists are suntanning, sniffing-up, smoking, injecting their special illegal deadly mind and spirit killer white powder aesthetics, and sipping their fancy martini's with the sunken cherries, oblivious to the great thundering crashing roar of the incoming powerful monster killer-wave...

Sure, the computer is a lot of fun, but there's more to living than staring at the bouncing flashing rainbow of 200,000 pretty pixels of a lit LED screen attached to an electronic toy... I'm old-school.. I love life.. The monsters in the universe love me.. Life's spirits attached to me.. I have immortality in the pocket because I searched for it, reached for it, honored it, and found out how it all works.. You all end in your present dead-ended state of affairs, zero attitude for life, love, and living.. Turn the damn toys off, get out of that spinning chair, try to make your legs work again, or recharge the wheel-chair's batteries, and explore your mind and spirit to find out what you really are, and what's available to you as an immortal being.. Use the damn computer as a tool, not a way of living life by living a slow death...
