Try Booting back track with these instructions
Backtrack is a member of the Slax family which uses Lilo. You can therefore also try using Grub to chainload Lilo. This means to restore Lilo first in its root partition sdd1. Task D3 and E2 in my last link refer. In your case you don't need a Live CD as Ubuntu can be used for that purpose. Remember change the reference /dev/hda8 to /dev/sdd1 to suit your Backtrack. In E2 you need to add a title line also.
