Why should you have good back-ups of your computer data..
Slipping into QuickSand..
An acquaintance told 'he just lost a lifetime of 8-terabytes of data' when a best hard drive failed.. Now he needs to back track into his 30 hard drives to retrieve all his collective historic data, or succeed at using a data recovery program, or try to install the hard drive platter into another hard drive, like he's 'sunk in quicksand'... Imagine losing all your computer data.. Now what..?
Don't lose your backup to a hack, or virus, or faulty hardware.. Make at least three working backups on external hard drives before the doodoo hits your fan.. Computer hard drives do so wear-out and can suddenly die...
When I first heard of 'ransomware', immediately I made several backups of my data...
I have 2-terabytes of data saved since widows-98.. I do Not want to lose any of my precious data, so with 50 refreshed backups I can't lose my data... Some of the 50 hard drives are hidden so well even your gods couldn't find them..
Don't trust flash drives nor CD's as permanent back-ups.. They wear-out and die, then everything is lost, when all you got left of life is sewer-slide, like 'a toilet being flushed'...
Save yourself the grief of 'Slipping into cyber quicksand'.. Buy a couple external hard drives tomorrow, then back-up everything..
I don't know who is the best manufacturer for hard drives, but I do know the older Toshiba's were built like 'tanks'.. I can't wear one out, nor damage an old Toshiba external hard drive, even if they take many drops.. They take a beating and keep on working... I don't know what Toshiba is doing these days.. Are they putting out quality, or crap..? Just wondering.. Just asking...
Everyone who is running widows computers should acquire an old computer, install a Linux OS, and copy everything to it, just in case...
Especially all forums should have several back-ups.. Every forum running on widows should have a Linux back-up... There's a nasty computer killer multi-virus out there that hasn't hit the public yet.. When it does it will probably kill every widows operating system connected to the internet that hour.. It will totally crash the global economy and the internet, and will damage millions of lives.. It's called 'Storm'.. It's kookoo barbaric cocaino-damaged libido-twisted creator destroyed three of my computers with it back in widows-98 days.. There is no recovery from a 'Storm hit', it's the infamous 'blue screen dead computer', plus the hard drive has been destroyed... Be prepared for 'Storm'.. Don't be sorry, make at least three up to date Linux back-ups ASAP.. Make this week 'back-up my treasures week'..

Yeah, I agree! That's why I always secure my backup files for all of my data files.

How do you know you aren't adding malware to your backups when you're uploading the data from the day's work and play on the Web..?
Using Clam scan is a pain.. Clam seriously mungs-up and slows down the Linux OS..
I gave all the windows junk to the precious metals recycler and to the incinerator, so I can't run defender... Seems we need a special systems utility notebook exclusive for malware scanning dvd's, external hard drives, and flash drives... Any ideas what would be the best Linux OS for that..?
What would be a good theme and policy to know that you are never adding malware to the backups..?
A few months ago I loaded a downloaded pix to two of my 50 backups, which destroyed the backups.. I suspect the corrupt pix was an overly self-righteous grannie-class microhell's goofle exec's nasty game to bait and bully people to appease his sicko religious dark place jollies.. His website was labelled 'neural' something.. Probably an aging ceo desperate to cause havoc and discord to keep in practice controlling and hurting people as he fades into the dark lost oblivion of obsolescence...
How do you do your backups safely..?
Yesterday I went through seven hard drive backups that need a new OS installed.. One hd had 20-gigs of data in a locked file that wouldn't format clean, so I formatted the hd to ntfs, then formatted it back to fat.. The hidden locked file vanished..

The True Value of a Backup..
The True Value of a Backup..
Clicked up the music folder, and see that half of the thousand mp3's open as text.. Seems a bully's malware infected the folder...
Not a prob.. I delete the mp3's, and videos from the netbook's OS, run bleachbit, reboot, upload the replacement copies from any one of the 100 backup hard drives, or from the netbook's external hard drive backup.. Music file is restored, cyber-bug is gone.. Took only 20-minutes...
I wonder if doing that evil made the bully have an incredible orgasm in dellusioning appeasing his or her psychopathic psychotic narcissistic hell-biased insanity..? Maybe it's the same guy or squat who is killing our Linux..? Who is it..? What is it..? It ain't human.. It can't be putrid, he's not that smart...
Seems the war in/on the internet is closer than I thought.. Hell-demons are targeting the innocent, pure, honest, and loving for remote-applied destruction hurts for their pretend gagagoogoo libido rushes...
I bet the bullies were weaned to early, and are still angry over their closeted: cumulative: colic, diaper rash, being hungry, being ignored, and probably being abused by their mindless clueless cocaino-head single mommies, like being left alone with a full diaper by their mummies for a whole day while on their knees and backs working day... They do so need new mommies, and emergency exorcisms, or suicide...
Maybe if the tyrant gets a new mummy, the war on Linux will end.. So it should hire a nice plump wet-nurse with big big leaky peach wazzaboo hoozabobbers...
Maybe putrid and the other barbarians need that workable solution..? But there is a risk: maybe he's a nipple-biter..?
..So, is there anyone out there willing to sacrifice a nipple to save our precious Linux from impending disaster and destruction..?
Perhaps it could be profitable..? Enter into the contract "Bite a nipple, you pay 1-million American dollars to the wet-nurse surrogate-mommy".. Participants and lawyers present, all witness-sign here: ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___.
So what would you do with a sore nipple and a $million..?
Would you help fund the new Linux, and the new Linux Internet..?
Would you help fund my humanity rescue forest towns to reboot humanity after the wars..?
Everyone worthy gets a free mini-house... Money and religion not permitted.. Barter only... Public nudity in the towns permitted and welcomed... Punishment for crime is sudden death...
Three towns per forest globally..
One is Lovetown for the good spirits, the nephilim angels, the kind honest people, the humans, the spirits heaven might want in itself...
The middle town is 'Utopia', for a biker club, whose leader is a Buddhist monk, to be our protection and army...
Third town, ten miles away, is fenced 'Helltown', for the bullies, the criminals, the politicians, the police bullies, the kooks, the elitists, the rejects, the karen's, the insane's, the psychotics, the ah's, the devils, the cristians.. Helltown knocks them out with a baseball bat, ties them up, loads them on busses, and sells them as 'meat on the hoof' to the zombie cities in barter-trade for needed items like tools, hardware, medicines, and consumer products...
I wager Helltown will sell a Lot of screaming squirming demon-meat to the city zombies ('karen burgers' and 'bully blood-wine')...
Bad politicians and religions devils all go directly to Helltown for processing.. We'll trade the first bus-loads delivery of squirming demons for propane, screws, glues, nails, sheet metal, diapers, fempads, toothpaste, thread, cloth, oils, and rice...
The big remaining question remaining: 'Will the rejects make good wine and stews for the city zombies..?'
I'll give those mindless, loveless, soulless, godless bullies the hell they've been sharing with us all their lives.. It's 10/10 Helltown meltdown for you bullies!.. AuhhhMen!..
So that's why they've been murdering scientists and trying to murder me all my life: They are afraid of truth, that their hell doesn't get to realize our heaven, that they, hell's contents, can't and won't steal 'heaven', won't realize and infest our nephilim 'heaven', that they all end in their stinking hell...
You crawly slithery slimy stinking alien demons Can't steal heaven.. It's Impossible.. Try, and my dragons will eat you...
You chose hell.. You're in hell.. You Are hell.. Go make your own damn heaven, cannibals..
You would be wise to leave our Linux be, and restore the damages you did.. Your path is most definitely the way to hell, Guaranteed!.. and another silly 'AuhhhMen!'..
On your path you End.. Oh yay...
We are Immortal because we love all life like heaven and life loves all life, like heaven is all life.. We are already in our spirit-home 'heaven' in spirit..
You bullies are sharing hell and hurt to pure-spirit honorable loving innocent life and to heaven.. You bullies Are the war against life, love, truth, and heaven.. You bullies Are already in your terrorist cult's twisted puffs hell.. How you gonna get out..?
We don't want your kind in our nephilim creators 'heaven', so go fly the fluff!.. Get Flushed!.. Embrace the fire.. Be dust..
Just so you bullies know: Your bullying mp3-bug didn't hurt nor damage anything.. I lost nothing but copies from my scrap crapper netbook.. It took only 20-minutes to repair your evil..
The value of a backup is clear.. Yay backups...
You black-spirit dead-soul bullies have Armageddon.. Your war against life and love is you suiciding.. You end...
We pure-spirits have Utopia.. We are forever...
The big questions remaining are: What did you gain from your war against good..?
What did you lose from your war against good..?
Will you make good stew..?

Reason: To slap the bully who is killing Linux..

You?re absolutely right ? losing a drive feels like sinking into quicksand. No brand is truly fail-proof, so the only real protection is redundancy. I keep at least 3 separate backups (one offline, one off-site, one active) and refresh them regularly. Cloud can be handy, but never as the only copy. Old Toshibas were tanks, yes, but today it?s less about the label and more about having multiple safe copies. Backup week shouldn?t be once a year ? it should be every week..

Thanks: hope44:
Occasionally some baddie does something nasty to the files in this netbook's Linux Mint OS, changing pix and note file permissions to "Allow Executing file as Executable", and I can't change it back to clean.. It changes many files to read only.. If I accidentally transfer one of those troubled new files to a backup, the malware, what ever it is, corrupts that whole back-up to malware toxic, and I am forced to format it, and reload its contents from one of the many clean back-ups.. Then I must format the hard drive, and reinstall the OS.. Not a super big problem, as it takes only 90-minutes installed, fully customized.. Usually I am able to re-download the few lost pix from the original source, and copy the troubled word file contents from Protonmail, but sometimes I lose a few of that day's latest notes, and a few of the day's downloaded pix.. No big thing, but I can't find a way to clean-out the malware, what ever it is in the troubled files and/or OS without needing to format it all..
Do you happen to know anything about this type of malware attack, and how to deal with it..? What's it called..?
Can you recommend a good method to restore a backup after this type of malware attack..? All I have right now is to reinstall the OS fresh and remake the external hard drive back-up from another back-up...
How do you ensure and maintain safe secure back-ups..? What's the big secret..?
Which Linux program lets those baddies hack the word and pix files in Linux Mint..? I wondered if it has something to do Thunderbird, so as an experiment I uninstalled Thunderbird at first boot in a fresh new install, and haven't had any of those kookoo's attacks for a whole 6-weeks.. Maybe the baddies were exploiting Thunderbird as a hack-door..? Just guessing... But now I find that the OS's file handling goes a lot smoother, and suddenly a few new features came to life in how files are handled and processed.. Seems Thunderbird might be a little bit of a curse.. I'll give 'Betterbird' a test in a spare hard drive.. Have you ever tried Betterbird..?
Hope: I notice your post has the apostrophes changed to question marks.. I had that glitch happen twice.. I simply reinstalled the OS, and the glitch vanished.. Any ideas what's causing that silly glitch..? Maybe your OS has a tiny bit of malware..? Are you a targeted individual like I am..? Do you demand truth from the big business, religion, and government with a bit of noisy activism too..? I'm beginning to realize I can't force the controllers to be good, honest, kind.. They don't have nor know any good traits.. All they know and do is: crime, greed, steal, eat, poop, sleep, bully, ingest deadly zombie-drugs, excite their crotches, and play interactive violent cartoons.. Humanity is doomed.. Maybe if I stop trying to help humanity, the lizards will stop hack-attacking my netbook.. Activism doesn't work, it just angers the lizards...

That?s an interesting point about Thunderbird, I?ve noticed similar odd file permission issues on some older Mint builds, though in my case they turned out to be from syncing between drives with mismatched file systems (NTFS vs. ext4). I wouldn?t rule out an app exploit entirely, but sometimes it?s just Linux being overprotective with file flags after transfer.
When I started running my backups on a small Linux VPS instead of local drives, things got a lot cleaner. I set up a private cloud on a managed service (mine?s hosted through AccuWeb?s cloud platform) so the system runs isolated, updated, and scanned automatically. It?s still Linux-based, so I can script rsync jobs, but I don?t have to worry about drive failures or permissions flipping randomly.
Maybe something like that would help separate your ?clean? data space from the machines you use daily. That way, even if your netbook gets hit, the backups stay untouched.

Thanks for your wise tips:
After I dumped Thunderbird, the OS ran smoother, and the hacker invasions all ceased.. Thunderbird is definitely a hacker exploit hole...
You've got an invasion, as seen in your (')'s being changed to (?)'s.. I had that glitch so I reinstalled the OS... Any ideas what that glitch is called..? The moment I see any malwarish glitch in the OS I immediately reinstall the scraper netbook's OS, or simply replace the hard drive with a clean new OS already installed.. I have a box full of them.. I have all my files in about 100 spare hard drives that I've converted half into external hard drives, half into 'Linux Mint Mate 20.3' hardened... I keep ten computer hobby notebooks on the three desks never net-connected.. This way the apes can't ever touch my hobbies...
I'm avoiding all the alternative internet storage systems, because one day soon the internet will be down'n off because of the wars, and from 'Storm Virus', from the global asylum's mass-insanity...
I thought about your keen advice on making secure state of the art backups, and the obvious vulnerability of my backups, so in the light of your tips I just turned nine spare hard drives into 'Primary External Hard Drive Backup Externals' for my computer hobbies: Pix, Music, Music Videos, Videos, Notes, Software, New Sciences, War, and a primary Internet one... I'll leave these primary hard drive backups untouched/unupdated, and make a secondary copy external hard drive backup of each of them, so if a secondary backup ever gets hit with a 'diaper-head monkey's malware bug' I can restore it with its primary backup... Plus I have 50 Linux Mint hard drives with all of my data in them, so I Can't lose my valued files... If I'm not using internet storage my data can't get hacked by the silly little gagagoogoo spy-kiddies destructive and criminal antics...
So I don't add malware infected files to the primary backups, I'll save those new items in a quarantine backup external hard drive.. In a few months after they've proved to be clean and safe, after running them through an old windows notebook's defender, then I'll add the new data to the primary backups... I stopped relying on software to make my backups and computers clean and secure... Most of the new security software out there is already malware corrupt... I believe we are our best security in how we responsibly run our computers, is why everyone should have at least two complete backups, and a secondary notebook that's used exclusively on the internet, to maintain a wall between ones main computer and data and the crazy internet.. The primary notebook never gets net-connected, so your private data never gets compromised nor stolen... The only way I'd buy on the internet is with those disposable credit cards you see in racks in stores...My internet notebook doesn't have any private data in it what so ever, not even my first name... I pulled this internet notebook off the scrap electronics recyclables shelf... I wouldn't care in the slightest if a gagagoogoo hacker destroyed it.. I'd stand on a kitchen step to reach to the top of the stack of notebooks floor to touching the ceiling leaning against the wall in the utility room, ease off the top one, install a preloaded hard drive, plug it in to a power supply, and be back up'n running on the web in about 5-minutes...
