That's also not the kernel you would have been upgraded too... so I think doing so on March 24th would have left you with the one you have there.. mine looks like this:

Yep, it's the old kernel but supposedly running the new OS. I just thought it was funny when I noticed.

It's almost fixed, but now I'm having problems with xorg deps for some reason. Sigh.

Hmmm... it doesn't say 10.4, but About says:

I have to find out why that date says CDT. I did not select that during install. I'm on the other side of the international dateline!

I used to be the same... I'd download the ISO for the new release, burn it to CD and go from there. I've tried upgrades before but something somewhere always went wrong. This is the first time I've upgraded (this time to 10.4) and nothing broke!

Yeah, upgrades are pretty much a necessity as far as I'm concerned. It's a big reason why I don't use any RPM-based distributions anymore. Not because I think there's anything inherently upgrade-unfriendly about RPM, but for whatever reason the Fedoras, Suses, and Mandrivas of the world seem to have a more clean install attitude about things, whereas Debian-based tend to work better with upgrades. Oh, and then Gentoo, who barely even has "normal" releases anymore. Sure, I periodically run into problems, but fixing them is a whole lot easier than having to completely rebuild my Myth box every time. I don't think I've ever run into a problem so big that I just had to give in and reinstall from scratch.

And on the Folding front, I actually don't run it on this machine because I was having so much trouble with hardware and Myth .22 (may it burn in hell ) that I didn't want to stress the system any more than it already was. Maybe now that the memory is stable and I'm on Myth .23 I'll give it another shot though.
