I can't stay to figure it out. I'll have to check it later. There was always a chance that it was yet another embarrassing blackbelt error, but who car resist a good Charleton Heston/ Planet of the Apes reference? Not I, certainly!
Have to go pick up my cat Stallman, who went to visit the nueterer.

So, the obvious question is: are you using the default Jaunty Jackalope repositories?

Here's what it is. Apparently, Ubuntu uses different repositories for the live CD than for an installed system. I now have Kubuntu installed on my hard drive and fluxbox was easily installed via apt-get. But I'm glad I started this thread, just to let Ubuntu know that I'm watching them closely.

The universe repository isn't enabled in the Ubuntu LiveCD environment. Upon install, it gets enabled automatically.
I had a similar problem when I tried installing dcfldd in the LiveCD environment (Ubuntu 8.10).

You learn something new every day, I suppose. Stallman is recovering nicely from being neutered, by the way, in spite of the fact that they could only find one testicle. I had a ten minute conversation with the vet about cat testes. It was weird.

Change the cat's name to Lance....

I guess I did overreact. Ever since they screwbuntued their KDE3 users with the Insipid Ibex, I've been waiting for the next heavy-handed move from kubuntu.
Some will disagree, of course, and I respect that, but I've pretty much given up on KDE4 not sucking lots and lots of *** anytime soon. However, some of the applications are brilliant, particularly dolphin. So I thought that I ought to get back to my live CD project, which uses fluxbox to manage KDE applications. Not a genius idea, I know, but not as dumb as dropping KDE3 from Kubuntu. (From hell's heart, Kubuntu, I stab at thee!) I was working on it a year ago, when KDE4 started to get my attention, and I decided to wait and see. Now I think it's more timely than ever.
So this is why I was trying to apt-get install fluxbox into a running live CD Kubuntu system. I'm, writing the configuration files. All I had to do was check the /etc/apt/sources.list file, and enable the universe and multiverse repos. They were right there all along.
Incidentally, when you install fluxbox onto a kubuntu live CD system, the default menu is just crap, The only terminal in the menu is called "bash" and whatever that refers to, it apparently hasn't been installed. So there's no way to get a terminal window. The only web browser in the menu is... w3! So even though (as Darkbolt helpfully pointed out) any idiot could create a live fluxbox CD using KDE app, some idiot really should. Fortunately, this idiot is on the case!

Lance? The only Lance I can recall offhand is Lance Ito, the Judge who presided at OJ Simpson's murder trial. If he has only one testicle, that's one more than I gave him credit for.
